Mr. Mason here, Joanne had a quick surgery overnight to fix some bleeding but had a much better day. She was able to read some of you wonderful prayers and well wishes, and wanted to me say "thank everyone for their kindness and prayers, it means so much." Thank you from me, too.

Day 47: The way Landon finds joy even in the midst of a hard situation allows inspires me. It’s like he’s still living his best life in spite of living in the hospital. He just walked by his room with his IV pole and declared himself the assistant charge nurse.

The Virginia Supreme Court could have ruled the referendum was procedurally defective before millions voted. The Republican appointed majority explicitly refrained from doing so. Now they have come back after the fact and struck down the will of the people. Shameful.
MeidasTouch@MeidasTouch

🚨BREAKING: In a 4-3 ruling, the Virginia Supreme Court has OVERTURNED the redistricting referendum approved by voters last month that could have netted Democrats 5 additional House seats. The court ruled the General Assembly violated the Virginia Constitution in advancing the amendment, nullifying the referendum entirely.

I absolutely love this decision, how it's written. It's so quintessentially old school Virginia, and it makes me proud to be a Virginia lawyer. I was worried this part of our Commonwealth was dead and buried, but it's clearly not.

@GovernorVA How about the million plus Virginia voters who had already voted in the 2025 election whose rights you were perfectly happy to ignore? “Pushing back against a President” isn’t a justification for intentionally violating the Virginia Constitution. Ah the irony, Madame Governor.

Governor Abigail Spanberger
More than three million Virginians cast their ballots in Virginia’s redistricting referendum, and the majority of Virginia voters voted to push back against a President who said he is ‘entitled’ to more Republican seats in Congress with a temporary and responsive referendum. They made their voices heard. I am disappointed by the Supreme Court of Virginia’s ruling, but my focus as Governor will be on ensuring that all voters have the information necessary to make their voices heard this November in the midterm elections because in those elections we — the voters — will have the final say.

If Abigail Spanberger and Virginia Democrats had paid attention my October 2025 AG’s Opinion that made clear this scheme was unconstitutional and illegal, they could have saved more than $70 million, countless headaches, and months of obnoxious television ads defending the indefensible. Instead, they ignored the law, wasted taxpayer money on running a special election, and dragged Virginians through a completely avoidable mess.
Jason Miyares@JasonMiyaresVA

My office just issued an official opinion explaining that the constitutionally required process to amend the Virginia Constitution cannot be short-circuited by a last-minute vote of the General Assembly taken during an ongoing election.

@JasonMiyaresVA @RBPundit Perhaps the supreme court of Va should have struck this down immediately rather than letting the referendum proceed.

@Ravon120 @JonahDispatch Personality is different than authenticity. Personality in a politician is unlikely to be “what you see is what you get”. It’s crafted. Performative. JFK is one example. People who idolized him had little clue who he truly was. Many still don’t care. They fell for Camelot.

Sigh. Authenticity is not necessarily a morally positive quality. People can be authentic assholes. A lot of people fake authenticity really well. Also, the whole cult of authenticity is Rousseauian-populist garbage whether from the left or right. thedispatch.com/article/trump-…

What? South Carolina has a black Senator. His name is Tim Scott. He’s a Republican. You can’t gerrymander Senate seats. What world do these people live in?

@jkbjournalist @danielgbates You’re a role model for journalists in an age when many lack patience & courage to track down a story over years. When folks talk about Epstein, I make sure to credit your dogged efforts to chase down the truth when it wasn’t convenient or encouraged. We need more like you!

I guess it wasn't "novel" to track down 80 victims (all their names redacted from court documents, meaning I had to find them), convince 8 of them to speak to me, four on the record-- and on camera! Does anyone understand how difficult that was? It was so difficult that I contacted sexual assault psychiatrists to guide me so that I wouldn't re-traumatize them. 1/
