What’s amazing is that the Israeli press reports freely about Israeli government’s genocidal plans, which they don’t hide at all! But the American media is so scared of Israel’s thuggish supporters in US that they won’t tell you Israel is planning to steal all this land.

@elonmusk In a data abundant world one can always find examples/anecdotes to support any narrative inc. empathy being a problem, question is if we lower our threshold for empathy is more harm being created than averted systemically (type 1 vs 2 error).

Beware the empathy exploit. Empathy is good and right when thought through (deep), but can be deadly to civilization when simply stimulus-response (shallow). For example, releasing a repeat violent offender may feel good at first (shallow empathy for the criminal), but it is wrong to do so when that person will go on to hurt or murder innocent victims, as there should be deep empathy for future victims.

Take a look at Max Hastings on the war in the Pacific, & read about the Soviet Army’s treatment of innocents in northern China as they made their way toward Japan. the bombs were merciful.
