Things people that support rebuilding local and regional food don’t want to hear……
There were more pigs farrowed outside when there was still a competitive commodity market pre 1990’s than are today for niche markets.

This is not normal - the increase in ticks visibly on us already is alarming.
We have grasses kept low between mowing and grazing animals, wood are being cleared by mulching now - chickens are free ranging around the house and through the fields and still the ticks are showing.
Yes - we live where there are ticks and they are normal - but this is more pressure than I’ve seen before.

We used the chicken carcass to make stock, and tonight the stock and leftover chicken are being used to make jambalaya.
Flavored with Cajun Heat, of course.

Tonight we cooked a whole farm to table chicken bought from Cottage Pastures (@Mathew_Winters1). Spatchcocked the bird, rubbed with ghee, and then dusted with our Cajun Heat seasoning. Cooked in the Green Egg at 375-400 until done. How did you ENAK today?

@delictush83409 When you live and work in the same place for years you begin to notice patterns - this land I’m working is showing ticks sooner than years prior. I’m not too concerned with “propaganda” I’m sharing much of my life with people who are interested in following along

So now we have to watch out for deer and dog ticks!

@Mathew_Winters1 I raised some a long time ago. I put them on full feed for 8 weeks they were like little turkeys. The dressed out above 6 pounds.

Should be through shipping mortality after today - this is one healthy looking group.
Plenty of feed, lots of water - active, foraging and moving about.
500+ in this batch.

@JesseJLewis Target is 4.5 pounds dressed. Breasts when cut out .8 - 1.1 pound is the target.
