@BlueSnivyian @Pirat_Nation If they are not fined in any way for this it may also open the door for other companies to do the same if the customer does something they don't like. For example Microsoft might not like people dual booting so they might blacklist that ssd or similar messed up things.

The Riot Vanguard anti-cheat system used in Valorant is “trolling” hackers. It recently received an update that blocks many hardware cheating devices. These devices connect through SATA and NVMe drives to bypass anti-cheat detection. The update can completely lock some of these devices, and many users say the only way to fix the problem is by reinstalling Windows. Cheaters are also seeing a red ban screen that moves across the display and sometimes causes visual glitches. I don't like cheaters, but if they are bricking PCs, it is illegal.

@devSithun Yeah I never touch anything with rootkits like this. But I am more concerned that 99% of people just blindly accept it so it will become more and more acceptable. Soon we might have other proprietary software that people depend on doing the same or even worse.

Besides, it's almost as if playing games with kernel lvl anti-cheat is a stupid fucking idea to begin with. I wouldn't touch the stuff.

Game: Valorant AC: Vanguard (VGK) Today’s Vanguard anti-cheat update blocked the majority of DMA firmwares using SATA/NVMe. VGK suddenly triggered an IOMMU restart warning in-game, after which the DMA firmware becomes completely unusable, even without the game running or after uninstalling Vanguard. Only fix is a full OS reinstall. It’s using IOMMU to create read blocks, which permanently breaks the majority of almost all SATA/NVMe firmwares once triggered. Even the advanced H2-board got affected. Confirmed Firmware Block wave by @ItsGamerDoc

@brockpierson Probably the worst of all windows. Drivers where not ready at launch so 99% of users had unstable systems. A shame really because had it been stable I would have liked it. Later on with all updates and mature drivers it was pretty good but iirc XP had been released then so XD

What was your take on the Windows ME Operating System?

@nic_s182 @awesomekling A friend in Brazil still has a Core I7 920 or something and a radeon 280x. With an avarege income of 650€ per household I would not run fancier hardware either.

@awesomekling Heard of 3rd world countries? I live in Africa where it's quite common for businesses to still be using 10+ year old hardware. The company I work at is ditching a client for having 15 year old hardware...

@awesomekling And yes I do have a more powerful desktop when I need more power. But I literally mostly rock old Thinkpads when I need portability. Ok, many Thinkpads, but I have a problem lol.

@awesomekling Exactly 15 years old lol. But to be fair it's a Thinkpad T420 with all the upgrades, quad core, 16gb of ram two SSDs and room for one more if I feel the need to compensate for something. I can't see "normal" laptops still being usable from that era.
