@dank_ackroyd "Unrealistic expectation" to rent the flat at the advertised price. Beyond parody.

Been out and about in Suffolk's tourist hotspots today. Snape Maltings, lunch in Aldeburgh. Weather's been fabulous - sunny and warm. But I don't think I've ever seen it as quiet as it is this Easter school holidays. Stepdaughter says it's been quiet in Cornwall too. Cost of living really hitting people now perhaps?

@MattDownham @SandyofSuffolk @Bob71136804 Yeh matt you have to work for everything. Nothing is free. I think some people feel they can enjoy money and success without making any efforts.

But, but, but, I'll have to walk 20 minutes to a station. Eeek! Oooh no. I can't commute for an hour each way. But my mum lives close by, how will I manage if I have to move away? 🤔 But jobs in xxx town don't pay £50 grand. But it might need work and decorating. Boo hoo. All my friends are here. Excuse after pathetic lame excuse. 🙄 I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. 😜

I met the most quintessential Green voter canvassing in Catford recently. They were a leaseholder of a small flat in Catford owned by a housing association. Their plummy voice suggested they were not someone who grew up in a small flat in Catford. They complained about their ever growing service charges to me. The downwardly mobile middle class, the Greens’ core vote.
NJ@NoJusticeMTG

I mean part of the problem is both labour strategists and the SW1 types are still trying to claim that renters working for 50p above minimum wage in river island are somehow middle class because they live in Bristol and aren't reactionary

Once one has paid a mortgage for about 10 years, one can throttle back if one chooses. Then 40 hours becomes an option. I was talking about getting on the ladder. Once one reches 60, 0nes mortgage is generally paid off. Only about 10% of us then continue to work 40 hours plus and that is either because we choose to or we work in an industry that requires longer hours, eg medical or construction.

99% of boomers didnt get their houses by working just 40 hours. Most took a second job to save. I delivered pizzas snd sold fights in a bucket shop on top of roofing. At other times i delivered milk form 3 in the morning and when i finished (9 or 10 o'clock) i'd go roofing. Often bump 2 or 3 thousand tiles for £5 a thousand.

It doesn't take an expert to figure out why the council's scheme has seen a backlash. What were they thinking? What if instead it had dignity, beauty and was designed with respect towards residents? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

People getting upset because pensioners (worst pension in the developed world) get a measly few quid extra a year is beyond pathetic. They've worked , yes, worked all their lives, paid taxes and the reward is a shit pension and criticism. Fuck the commies.

When I started paying National Insurance contributions in 1976, the deal was that I'd get a pension providing for a basic standard of living in a then-unimaginable 50 years' time. But now I've finally got there, it's just half the minimum wage.

Because it is more than a house - it is a home A place full of memories Once again we have reached the “If you want to be warm in winter. Sell your home. Sell your watches and belongings” nonsense peddled by pensioner hating brats

@Windsor_Watcher @ojvhteuhyhes Yeah I mean 'invested' figuratively. You just won't be able to convince young people it's a good idea, because for them it isn't, hence the complaints.

@MattDownham @ojvhteuhyhes Sadly you can’t opt out of the tax NI stystem. Don’t you think we would have done the same rather than rely on the Government. However back in 1975 that is what was sold to us. A state pension for our old age..

@Windsor_Watcher @ojvhteuhyhes "You'll probably get a few quid when you're 60!" is a tough sell to a 25 year old as to why they should remain invested in the current system.

@MattDownham @WelManicuredMan @linmeitalks Well too bad you're such a loser then. My kids wanted to buy a house and did what they needed to do to be able to do that. Oh and they don't live in shit holes, just a cheaper part of the country. They could have afforded to buy in their home city, but only in a shit part.

A Lifetime of memories don’t pay the bills. UK welfare spending is set to rise by £18 billion to reach £333 billion this year (£153 billion is state pension). This bill is projected to climb to over £400 billion by the end of the decade, exceeding current income tax revenue. HOW DO YOU PROPOSE WE PAY FOR IT?
BB Jones 🩵🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧@LB250631

@linmeitalks These ‘boomers’ as you so disrespectfully label them often have a lifetime of memories and love cocooned in their home. Their children will inherit in time. If you were my child I would be ashamed at your selfishness and level of entitlement.

@MattDownham @CptHastings1916 I can assure you, 20 mins train from London. I agree a 40 year term is mental however as they climb the property ladder they can reduce that term just because it starts at 40 years doesn’t mean it’s gonna end up 40. It will end much sooner. It’s just a means to get on the ladder.

I don't know what young people are moaning about, housing in England is totally affordable if you're willing to move to a cramped terrace in a remote coastal town with no railway station where all the pubs close at 9pm and you have no social circle or employment prospects.
