@josh_stelm72225 @lady_valor_07 She also had to tip a percentage of the bill to the back staff. And that % isn’t based on the customer tip. She probably lost money serving that group.

@simonsarris We had an engineering intern who had never used a screwdriver before and didn't know what a crescent wrench was. Kid came from money, so it explained a lot.

This just sounds so impossible but I've heard 2 anecdotes from teachers that suggest the same thing. Kids who never ever picked up a drill or a screwdriver before graduating high school.
Andrew A.Abbott@realAAAbbott

First thing we skills test for is "can you run a cordless drill". 98% of guys under 35 in fact cannot. They can't run a cordless drill properly, safely. You aren't going to learn to be a plumber or electrician in 2 years because you don't even know enough to change a tire.

Also, they take a photo of a newly constructed development and surprise, there are no trees. So yes young families get new homes that don't need much maintenance, in a safe neighborhood with "good schools" and likely a bunch of neighbor kids for theirs to play with. But they don't get trees or a bodega.

you see this sort of snarky crap all the time, and it's tiresome we're looking at 2,000 square foot houses with heat, air conditioning, full kitchens, 2.5 bathrooms, garages for cars / workshops / storage / band practice, available to all 99% of the world would KILL for this

I'd missed this. 'The U.S. military has lost two more MQ-9 Reaper drones during "Operation Epic Fury" in Iran, according to two U.S. officials. This brings the total to 11 drones lost so far.' cbsnews.com/live-updates/u…

@eastdakota I'm going to guess this somehow goes back to Elevator Unions? Some form of featherbedding because it takes more workers?

@amypretzel Don't let marketing, sales or upper management see a nice looking prototype until VERY close to launch. We made the mistake of showing off a nice looking prototype 2 years before launch, they started taking orders right away, and then blamed us for it being "18 months late".

hot take: your first prototype should be embarrassing. if it looks polished, you spent too long on it. i used to waste weeks making pretty CAD models before testing anything. now i start with cardboard and hot glue. learning happens faster when you're not precious about it

@ismailhozain I've had a really bad time with my QC department scanning +/-0.001 holes with a Fero arm. I always have to dispute the report and make them use gauge pins.

Are 3d laser scanners good enough to use for QC of machined parts (to within +-1 thou) yet? The given creality specs seem to say yes, but I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience with this workflow. Saw a guy recently using a Keyence laser scanning system, said it was much faster than his CMM.

@RyanMcbeth @fadhero How would air bursting a MOAB do against a landing group like that? Seems like you wouldn't have the civilian casualty concern you do with land usage.

@fadhero Well, the Chinese fishing boats are most likely a sensor not an invasion fleet but yes, using nuclear weapons on an amphibious landing group is an ideal use case.

Say @RyanMcbeth if China really plans to bring this many ships for an invasion of Taiwan, couldn't a few well placed nukes dropped on the invading navy end the invasion with a minimal chance of damage to civilians on Taiwan or the mainland?

INVESTIGATION: Thousands of Chinese fishing boats have been massing in geometric formations in the East China Sea, in coordinated actions that experts believe are part of Beijing's preparations for a potential regional crisis or conflict u.afp.com/SLq9

everybody ignores how expensive houses really are, and don't put away money for repairs renting is often a much better deal than people realize for that reason (and others)
Ramit Sethi@ramit

If your roof needs a $45,000 repair 20 years from now, that means you should be saving $2,250/year, or $187.50/month Do you do this? Almost nobody does A shortcut: Save 1%-3% of the price of the house -- PER YEAR -- for maintenance. For a $500K house, that's $10k/year

@lizardking7112 @9mmsmg I'm not convinced China could take Taiwan solo right now. All the soldiers in the world doesn't do you any good unless you can get them across 100 miles of water. 100 miles gaurded heavily with anti-ship and anti-air missiles.

@Osinttechnical Operating cost for Apache helicopter is $5000-$7000 per hour, not counting pay and training for pilot. Estimate loiter time for intercept and possibility drone does not have the advanced electronics package and is not being sent as a distraction.

@ChoZ3nWon @BilalElmou89932 @Osinttechnical These are being deployed near the target, not near the launch site. If you're using drones for long range strikes then we only need air superiority over a small portion of that flight path.

@Gabriel64869839 Being able to match speed and fire from off axis pretty much eliminates the debris ingestion issue Ukraine has faced using Fighter Jets. It's funny to see people complaining about the operating cost though, Shaheds are probably the most expensive thing it has engaged in 20 yrs.

The US Army has run experiments with the AH-64E which have seen successful drone shot-downs in challenging conditions with APKWS, Hellfire and JAGM. Plus the 30mm option. AH-64E with radar and Link 16 is an excellent drone hunter at low altitude. All its weapons can play a role
