Think the issue here is that "economy" and "fiscal position of the government" are being used as synonyms.
The former has done poorly but is currently improving. The latter is utterly dire.

This is interesting. Is there really political mileage in the Tories saying 'the economy wasn't as bad under us as Labour claim'? Especially given the state of public services which I think many use as the real indicator of the state of the economy.

@prodnose Not quite. It was captured by the Royal Navy when the British smashed the Spanish (and the French) at the Battle of Trafalgar. Their showy big flags didn't do them any good when they came against Nelson and his mates.
