I don't really understand the implication here. Kawhi invested in Rhode Island FC. There's no smoking gun regarding any wrongdoing and zero actual links to the Clippers/Aspiration story that Pablo broke (and won an award for). So as of now this is much ado about nothing

Some of you have been contacting me behind the scenes wanting to learn more. The NBA’s salary cap is ONLY legal because both sides signed a collective bargaining agreement. If rich owners start using side-deals to pay stars off the books- like Pablo Torre’s award winning reporting on the Clippers alleges- the whole legal system holding the league together breaks down. As such, every side is digging in and this is likely to get messy.

@Sam_Vecenie He didn't invest any money into the team but was taking money as an owner. Uncle Dennis asked the Raptors of part ownership of the leafs, you can't do that under the NBA Bargaining agreement. Clippers said yes... Pablo does a better job explaining it. Two issues now

Pablo’s latest on the Kawhi saga. Not sure I saw anything that will impact his potential to be suspended or not from an NBA perspective, but did find the connection interesting and the point made as to how unpacking ALL of this is why Wachtell is taking so long is well said.

At this rate, the investigation will drag on until after Kawhi is retired. So the Clippers & Raptors might as well just pull the trigger on that trade... No reason to hold up league business for this.

@SamQuinnCBS Watching the Pablo YouTube watch.... Kawhi could be done for this up coming season. It's beyond Aspiration issue now. The one thing the Raptors wouldn't do to resign Kawhi is what the Clippers did.... which is against the rules. Now you have two issues the NBA has to deal with

The fascinating part of this to me is that the Clippers got a GREAT return in the Kawhi trade, so if this isn't settled by the start of the season and the Raptors back out, that's almost a punishment in and of itself regardless of whether the Clippers are innocent here or guilty. Considering Kawhi's age and injury history, most of the value of trading for him is baked into the present. It's just substantially less valuable to get him in January than it is in July because 2027 is your best title shot and you need camp/the whole season to develop continuity. That ignores the possibility of Kawhi getting hurt again in the interim. Would the Clippers even put Kawhi on the court if the trade isn't done by opening night? They couldn't take that risk, right? You could almost argue that the Clippers are incentivized to settle if the NBA wants to punish them. They'd lose whatever the settlement determined, but they'd prevent this from dragging on so long that the trade with the Raptors would be affected (assuming Kawhi isn't voided). I doubt they'd do it because that would be tantamount to an admission of guilt, but if this goes to appeal and they lose, they get double whammy'd with the NBA's actual penalty and the loss of a great trade return.

I believe the trade between the Raptors and Clippers involving Kawhi Leonard will still go through, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the two teams renegotiate the deal if a resolution to the investigation isn’t reached by training camp. This process remains far from finished.
