@PeterPrinsley @bphillipsonMP If you are so confident that your investment in mainstream will result in greater inclusion, then leave the current legal rights and protections as they are. The fact you are not intending to do that speaks volumes.

Dr Jonathan Broad is absolutely right - the current SEND system is too slow, too adversarial, and not working for families. Labour’s reforms are a positive step toward earlier support, stronger mainstream provision, and a more inclusive system that puts children’s needs first.

@bphillipsonMP By taking away significant legal rights and protections. Your actions will lead to lost opportunities and thousands of children with trauma.

Labour is tackling one of the thorniest problems the Tories left behind — with compassion, investment and reform. We’re building a new SEND system, so every child can achieve and thrive.

I have met too many parents exhausted by the SEND system not because they are asking for more, but simply asking for what their child is entitled to. This Labour Government is building a system that works for families not against them. Consultation open👇🏽 gov.uk/government/con…

The Govt is proposing more mediation to stop parents appealing to the SEND Tribunal. Mediation does't work because LAs ignore the law and do not adhere to the rules around mediation. Further, mediators have no power over LAs AND mediation agreements are not upheld @BBCWomansHour

@ElissaNoves Or rather, ‘ Councils stand ready to restrict the list of potential schools you can select from’ knowing that you probably won’t have any effective rights to challenge the poor choice we give you. Councils will be rubbing their hands with glee.

After lobbying to dilute disabled children’s legal rights as councils failed to meet their existing duties, the LGA now ‘stands ready’ to ensure every child gets the support they need. Inspiring.

We welcome the Government’s ambition for children with SEND to thrive in mainstream settings where appropriate. Urgent reform is needed, and councils stand ready to ensure every child gets the support they need. Read our full response ⬇️ local.gov.uk/about/news/sch…

For too long, families have been fighting to be heard. We're changing that. We're holding the biggest national conversation on SEND in a generation – and we want to hear from you. Join the conversation 👇 consult.education.gov.uk/send-reform-na…

@bphillipsonMP You haven’t listened at all have you ? So much for ‘national conversation.’ And the glossy video of a SEND hub one can simply ‘drop in’ for support. Parents aren’t buying it.

This investment will change lives. It'll go towards bespoke, calming spaces to help children with additional needs get the support they need at a good, local school on their doorstep. Labour is building schools where every child can achieve and thrive. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Hi @stwater. Something is wrong with your online system. I can’t log in the old way because my account was moved, and the new system requires an email request that errors every time. I also can’t ‘get in touch’ because it redirects to login page. Please help.

@Samfr @catrionamoore13 @CutScenesUK It didn’t feel like a choice to us at all. Faced with complex needs, failed mainstream placements and the trauma that caused, we had to fight for a specialist placement. We remortgaged the house to fund the fight ! Some ‘choice’ …

Problematic analysis. Statement that fewer disabled children should be legally entitled to individualised support in education, & reference to limiting Treasury 'largesse', means accepting that, as a country, we no longer think every child is worth educating. Is this who we are?

@educationgovuk Greater inclusivity ? This suggests that the aim is for ‘better than we have now.’ Which to be fair, wouldn’t be hard but greater inclusivity doesn’t equate to all children getting their needs met. Is this the start of SEND parents being expected to ‘put up with what they get’?

The Education Secretary visited All Saints Primary Catholic School to see how they’re delivering a truly inclusive education for all pupils 📚 All children deserve the opportunity to learn at their local school alongside their friends, and we’re committed to making this happen through more support and greater inclusivity in mainstream schools 🏫

Lost my Mum this morning to cancer. She felt unwell about 5 weeks ago and got taken into hospital 2 weeks later where they told her she had stage 4 breast cancer and it had spread everywhere. She never experienced any pain and passed peacefully overnight.

Over the last year, I’ve seen first-hand the work @bphillipsonMP has done to improve children’s lives. She secured £2bn to reform social care and rolled out breakfast clubs. Tireless in every cause she backs— that’s why I’m supporting her for deputy leader

The hard right are telling young people where I come from that it doesn't matter if they work hard in life, they can't get on. Theirs is a politics of simple slogans, of scapegoats and traitors, of betrayal and division. The only way to beat them is to unite and deliver.
