@DrChrisCombs Here's the crazy part, sometimes getting deep into something also means having to pick up other skills which if you were only just doing the reading you might not get the experience of learning the random other things...

It's also remarkably naive to think you could spend one year reading about any one topic of engineering and become an expert
Just going to grad school takes 5 years of dedicated study of one subject and most people come out with a PhD yet feeling incredibly stupid lol

Sorry kids but in a domain like engineering, simply "doing the reading" has limits
You need to:
-Do the designing
-Do the building
-Do the testing
-Do the breaking
-Do the listening to the old wise ones
And do that a bunch of times and do it well before you are in the top ~5%

imo: if you’re deliberate about “doing the reading”, whatever that means for any domain, within a year it’s possible to be in the top ~5% in the scene. This is because 95% of people don’t do the reading

Rented a Tesla in Maui. All three Superchargers on the island are at resorts where you have to be a guest to use them. No electrical outlet at our hotel. Called Avis. “Bring it back and swap it for a gasoline-powered car.” Thoroughly miserable experience.

Very handy site, especially for folks with ADHD etc! Put in a task, click the magic wand, and it'll break the task down into a pretty decent list of subtasks. Lots of good customization options, can edit / add / delete / rearrange at will goblin.tools

@johncutlefish Plus after each improvement, there is a chance to re-evaluate and pick the best place for iteration. 10 improvements provides a lot of chances to make sure that the changes are actually improving things. Just a single 50% improvement, you really better be sure that will work

@johncutlefish Which goes hand-in-hand. Since if you improve a constraint 50%, chances are it only needed part of that improvement to make a different thing the constraint. 10 things improved has probably repeatedly improved the constraint line.
