AI will help discover new science, such as cures for diseases, which is perhaps the most important way to increase quality of life long-term.
AI will also present new threats to society that we have to address. No company can sufficiently mitigate these on their own; we will need a society-wide response to things like novel bio threats, a massive and fast change to the economy, extremely capable models causing complex emergent effects across society, and more.
These are the areas the OpenAI Foundation will initially focus on, and in my opinion are some of the most important ones for us to get right. The Foundation will spend at least $1 billion over the next year.
@woj_zaremba, co-founder of OpenAI, will transition to Head of AI Resilience. I believe that shifting how the world thinks about safety to include a Resilience-style approach is critical, and I am extremely grateful to Wojciech for taking on this role.
Wojciech has been my cofounder for the last decade; anyone who knows him will understand what I mean when I say he is one of a kind. He has a lot of ideas about how we build a new kind of AI safety.
@JacobTref is joining as Head of Life Sciences and Curing Diseases.
@annaadeola, our VP of Global Impact, will transition to Head of AI for Civil Society and Philanthropy.
@robert_kaiden is joining as Chief Financial Officer.
@jeffarnold is joining as Director of Operations.

rioter defending CCP surveillance and toting CCP propaganda that they value minority groups whilst simultaneously downplaying Uyghur internment camps. Was wondering if this stuff is just fine to say online as a public rioter because denying ethnic oppression = VeryBad @drewlevin

@nicole_clash @Aniion Yes the CCP loves their distinct cultural groups. Was the Panchen Lama a dissenter at 6 years old? (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gedhun_Ch…) why do we still know nothing about this. Why is Tibet not free?

@RepGolden @UAW @UAWRegion9A Hey Jared what about that War Powers resolution! Would love to hear how you feel about the murder of 150 school girls in Iran. Thanks!

Solidarity with the 600+ members of the Bath Marine Draftsmen's Association (BMDA), who are on strike today as they fight for their wages, benefits, and retirement security.
Workers are the reason that Bath-built is best-built. They deserve a fair contract. @UAW @UAWRegion9A

@nicole_clash @Aniion “Why do you care about being recorded if you’re doing nothing wrong”. “The CCP uses mass surveillance and surveillance algorithms but there isn’t a social credit system”.

English

@nicole_clash @Aniion How are these arguments not pro CCP. These are all CCP talking points and takes. I don’t see how you’ve strayed from a single CCP view.
English

@nicole_clash @Aniion There is not an open market in China. Do you want me to link you a bunch of instances where the Chinese just make debts go away and such and such. This isn’t a slight to them by the way but they are in large part very self contained with hints of capitalism.
English

@nicole_clash @Aniion The entire basis of your argument is just “in my opinion or I’ve thought about this” you can’t just first hand account things like oppression unless you are apart of said oppressed group. These articles I’ve linked have multiple first hand accounts and are from trustworthySources
English

@nicole_clash @Aniion How are you defending the CCP if you don’t even know how their economic system functions
English

@nicole_clash @Aniion Because China is a communist society and the Yuan is a completely made up currency that gets forgiven en masse all of the time? The CCP can literally hire 300,000 people and pay them all a living wage to run and build these camps because that’s how their economy works.
English

@nicole_clash @Aniion You are completely incorrect in stating that China goes out of its way to protect minorities when I just linked an article by a human rights org talking about Tibetans being second class citizens and Uyghurs being put in internment camps.
English

@nicole_clash @Aniion The highball number is 1.8 million and can you link me where this growing minority groups are coming from? I think I’ve heard that just was wondering. The incentive for labor camps is free work. There is credible evidence that there were dozens of these camps in Xin Jiang
English

@nicole_clash @Aniion I said I wasn’t going to address any of your tu quoque statements. And absolutely yes I cannot just go frolicking around Xinjiang. Not that I even should be able to by the way. And yes the Chinese secret police or whatever does track American citizens entering their country.
