Maresca employed tactics to get Palmer receiving facing forwards as much as possible. • In build-up - Reece played as a deep RCM to attract Ruiz out leaving Vitinha alone at 6 and then Gusto making a late overlap timed with Palmer moving infield down the right. Vitinha couldn’t get across. • In transition and sometimes from goal kicks - there were a lot of long passes to release Palmer quickly into space high up the pitch at RW instead of a deeper midfield role. Match won right there.
