Direct time task is to develop a resource for stretching most able at KS3. We follow WRM. What kinds of things do departments have in place? I have seen some other dept in school with little A5 booklets of extension work.
@MctagueDavid Yes I am, not used the WRM previously. I believe that initially taken up to manage a lot of non-specialists teaching maths and to get some consistency. Not as much of an issue now so wondering what adaptations can be made to improve outcomes.
Currently building vocabulary glossaries for pupils with #EAL/#ESL and shocked by the lack of mathematics related secondary content. Anyone have any excellent recommendations? Very happy to share mine / collaborate once done @mathsjem@neiljstewart@hegartymaths@draustinmaths
My school is starting teaching A - Level maths and further maths for the first time next year. I’m looking for inspiration from some sow. Can anyone help out? Anything would be massive appreciated!! @mathsjem@Just_Maths@mrbartonmaths
@quantumdotty@notgotaminute@whisto_maths@WRMathsSec Interesting, thank you.
Do you follow the SOW up to year 9 then?
I have been looking at how WRM matches the cross cutting themes, do you feel it covers these?
@MctagueDavid@notgotaminute@whisto_maths@WRMathsSec From the mapping I’ve done upto y9 it covers everything. And the way WRM uses manipulatives and visual representations seems to fit well with the proficiencies. Needs more tweaking at gcse, particularly if you want to be able to do numeracy in Nov y11, that’s our work in progress
Teachers of WRM secondary- how do you keep on target for length of time for topic? Do you Check-Up DIRT and retest? Struggling to fit it in with close the gap too #wrm#whiteRoseMaths#maths@whisto_maths@WRMathsSec
@MctagueDavid@whisto_maths@WRMathsSec We made mistake of small step per lesson, and covid means behind and need to catch up/ close the gap by approx 1 term
@notgotaminute@whisto_maths@WRMathsSec We found that we struggled for time.
What I've done is go through and identify where a small step is nice but not necessary and could be done as a thread behind the scenes rather than an explicit lesson.
@notgotaminute@whisto_maths@WRMathsSec We are really struggling. Like above, we have 6 hours per fortnight for KS3. We’re going to have to take some repetitive units out and utilise retrieval in starters. Be interesting to see what others say!
@notgotaminute@whisto_maths@WRMathsSec No wonder we struggle! And here in Wales this is examined by two separate compulsory GCSEs. Maths and maths numeracy….
@MctagueDavid@mathsjem@missradders Prove to them it’s not just another maths lesson. I’d entice with food maybe something they can eat at lunch time like pizza, name the club something cool and have an outcome like a trip or something to get the kids involved!
@MctagueDavid@missradders@mathsjem Cipher Challenge in the autumn term sees 60+ in attendance. In Jan numbers reduce to c30. Collecting Transum trophies, Desmos Teach tasks, virtual Escape rooms, DFM Live & Maths Kahoots work well if you have ICT. Today we did Skyscrapers with manipulatives buildingmathematicians.wordpress.com/tag/skyscraper…
