This week, Red Cross National Society leaders from across Southern Africa are meeting in Maputo for the Southern Africa Partnership of Red Cross Societies. The opening brought together Red Cross National Society leadership, Movement partners, Government representatives and members of the diplomatic community in #Mozambique, reflecting the importance of collective action in addressing the region’s humanitarian challenges. As humanitarian needs continue to grow across the region, #SAPRCS remains key to strengthening preparedness, response, localisation and support to communities facing increasingly complex challenges.

Following severe thunderstorms in Free State, South Africa, @RedcrossSa volunteers and local authorities are on the ground conducting assessments to determine the extent of damage to homes, infrastructure, and access routes, as well as identifying affected households and prioritising urgent needs. Efforts are focused on providing relief and supporting early recovery.

Communities in Zambezi Region, Namibia are facing floods, drought & rising food insecurity. Crops lost and water unsafe. With support from @NamibiaRedCross supported by @IFRCAfrica Pretoria Cluster, families are trying to cope but needs remain high. More support is critical

In the Zambezi Region, Namibia, floodwaters have receded, but the impact continues to affect communities. Families and livestock were displaced, while homes, crop fields, roads, schools, and clinics were damaged, leaving over 2,000 people affected. In areas still surrounded by water, communities rely on makeshift boats crafted from tree wood to reach safety and access basic services. At the same time, the risk of waterborne diseases is rising, adding to concerns for already vulnerable households.

This week, the IFRC Pretoria Cluster, with support from the Regional Office, is hosting a @IFRCDREF and PMER workshop in Windhoek, Namibia, hosted by the Namibia Red Cross Society. Joined by some Namibia government sectors and Namibia Red Cross colleagues from across the region.

.@RedcrossSa teams in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, visited families affected by the tragic fires in Umdoni that claimed 3 lives, providing psychosocial support and essential relief alongside @GDCoGTA Member of the Executive Council and the Provincial Disaster Management Centre.
