My stream of consciousness thoughts on working for myself after my first year as a full time entrepreneur - I get random surges of gratefulness I’ve never experienced before - Genuine feeling that I wasn’t fully living previously - Stress does not go away it just changes drastically - It is both the ultimate freedom & cage to be able to do whatever you want whenever you want. One of the hardest parts for me was figuring out “how” to work - “Balance” isn’t a thing in the pursuit of success - “Hard Work” isn’t it. Consistent, correct work is. This one needs some expansion. I can sit at my desk for 10hrs every day with no notifications. That would be considered by some as “hard work”. But, in my case, I would burn out in a day or two. Also - that is not the best use of my time. Most of the magic in building a brand comes from 3 areas: Content, connections, and product That is where my time as a founder is best spent It also answers the question of “what should I delegate?” - everything else - I refuse to be a bad husband or father in pursuit of the business. Everyone that works with me knows I don’t work 4-7:30/8pm unless there is a fire to put out. That is family time. - Random observation: You can tell if someone is a legitimate business person or not by how they talk about lawyers and accountants. IYKYK. - Once you have a pie everyone wants a piece of it. EVERYONE. - The “let’s start one together. I’ll put up all the money you do all the work” thing isn’t a meme. It happens non-stop. - No one does anything. Ever. - The deeper ingrained your life is to “normalcy” the more everyone around you won’t get it. They’ll ask you things like “how do you get paid?” 😂 - You’ll naturally find yourself wanting to talk to business people more than anyone else - Folks that work a 9-5 get really uncomfortable when numbers or money is discussed - Contract (or some form of documentation/agreement) for everything over $1000 - Everyone thinks their piece of the business is the most important Attorneys, insurance brokers, accountants, designers, 3pl - they only see the business through their purview Their outstanding task is the most important item on their to-do list no matter how unimportant it is to you You need to find your own way to handle this - I’m still not the best at this because I’m sick in the head and hate being pestered - Forget any concept of “not being on your phone” or “limiting screen time”. Worry about that once you’re rich. - Don’t get fat. That 1hr at the gym is more important than refreshing your dashboard for the 20th time today. - *Almost* Everyone who does big shit uses PEDs in some form - I still don’t know how to answer “what do you do?” - I can never. Ever. Under any circumstances. Go back to 9-5/corporate world. Another warning I didn’t take seriously enough I would become a street pharmacist before going back Last one: - I genuinely don’t think this is for most people And not because of some sense of superiority (I have one but that’s not the reason) It’s mostly due to self-agency & stress tolerance The path we were all fed as the dream crushes agency and drives “security” into our heads Sitting in sweatpants running ads on the internet to get people to buy your shit doesn’t exactly fit that description If you read this far you’re a real one
