How do you finally kill @Warcraft? By destroying leveling. @BellularGaming exposes what we've known for a couple weeks now: it's impossible to level a new character in the game, half the mechanics won't work, you can't use potions, talents and abilities are broken. Disaster IMO.

ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE CAPE To commemorate this anniversary, loyal defenders of Super Earth that logged in between Feb 1st 00:01 - 28th 23:59 CET will be awarded the Eye of Liberty Cape on March 2nd. Let the second anniversary of the Second Galactic War be witnessed by the Lidless Eye of Liberty, that ever-watchful orb which provides safety through its ceaseless surveillance.

So @Warcraft @WarcraftDevs - what’s the plan to fix 0 hp potions? And the War Within’s Heartseeking Health Injector which, despite from being made with 600 healing potions (that work) it, too, only heals for 0 hp? ❤️‍🩹 🧪

@BaalTheWarlock No. This is permanent. Honestly, it’s just the icing on the cake of the buggiest most game-breaking patch in Warcraft history.

@eiyawow @KiwiOnTheSticks I’m guessing this is because Discord is seen as a necessary platform for gamers and gaming creators. This latest move seems to upend Discord’s centrality. Personally, I wouldn’t mind communities moving back to the web!

So, Warcraft is actually doing really well - it has more active subscribers now (as hard as this may be to believe) than anytime in its history, including Wrath. A lot of this is because of the various Classic and Anniversary modes. While Warcraft did a great job bringing back veterans, it’s doing very poorly attracting and retaining brand new players. So this has created two challenges, since Dragonflight (when it started its broad recovery for veteran players): 1. Tailor more of the game to veteran players, who are older and more casual; and, 2. Appeal to new, younger gamers, who tend to be primarily casual and transactional. Holly Longdale rightly points out that the target game time for most growing audiences today is a 30-60 minute play session. This deprioritizes competitive raiding, long stretches of Arena or PvP, and instead looks to reward casualized and noncommittal gameplay.

They’re talking about “approachability” and “bringing it to as many people as possible” because it’s constantly losing players. They’re focusing on the symptoms instead of the root problem. This “IP” has been run into the ground. Warcraft’s identity (its strongest point) was eroded. Go watch the WoD trailer, the Wrath trailer, TBC, Vanilla, Warcraft 3… Even something like Skyrim. What do you feel? That’s what inspired millions to play these games. Look at all the Warcraft fanart over the last 20 years. Those Disneyfied animation haven’t inspired anyone. It doesn’t resonate with anybody. Why are they so ignorant and can’t realise this? This is a fantasy game, and you’re not selling us the fantasy that we want to engage in and pay for. And yes, it's not always been perfect, but it's got much worse. And now you get this interview, and everyone dislikes it. They apparently dislike the very thing they work on. Even Chris Metzen himself who was this big promise for this new “saga”, which is absolutely failing. Where even is he now? I started playing in 2014 – too late to experience its greatness, just in time to witness the downfall. At this point it’s probably beyond fixing, too late. #worldofwarcraft #warcraft

I haven’t seen one positive reaction to this interview. Not one. Don’t torch the Warcraft you have chasing a version that only exists as a 20 year plan to capture “as many people as possible”. That’s how you lose it all.

On the heels of one of the most bug-ridden, poor-quality, catastrophic pre-patches in Warcraft history, @Chris_Dring's interview shows that WoW leaders say that there were "no corners cut, no compromises ... no sacrifices to quality." We're in trouble, fam.
Michael@BellularGaming

WoW leadership quote from @Chris_Dring's interview: "We’ve had a regular eight-week content updates all along the way. No corners cut, no compromises in terms of what we’re delivering, and no sacrifices to quality" To be clear: If they genuinely believe that, we're in trouble.

@CoreChamber @YaBoiWiilly EverQuest was a masterpiece, but it was definitely a game of its time. We tolerated so many terrible design choices - from the hierarchical time-sink, to the atrocious animations and horrific visuals - because there was literally nothing like it. Warcraft perfected the DikuMUD.

@Kaelon @YaBoiWiilly Yeah, EverQuest is still my favorite MMO, followed by WoW. Everything past that has been made in the wrong direction. I hated the PvP in AoC but loved the town building and economy.

The story is a simple one: the CEO, Sharif, and his husband were the only ones on the Board. When the game started to tank one week in, they grabbed the cash and ran. Mass resignations, firings, and closure followed. I hope California investigates this obvious fraud.

@CoreChamber @YaBoiWiilly Basic lesson all gamers need to learn: MMORPGs are a fully-saturated genre, and the cost of entry is so absurdly high, that the chances of a game actually making it in this space is almost non-existent. The best kickstarter you can make is: an indie studio looking to disrupt.

@YaBoiWiilly Yeah, got it past the time period response. How were we to know it was a cash grab? Less likely to buy into an early access title now.

I remember back before demon hunters and when flying was more difficult to unlock, you were considered cool if you were able to get on the roof of the inn by jumping on top of the mailbox.

AAA is screwed. Power to the gamers. Google's Genie 3 makes a game from image or prompt, let's you run around and explore. Things are happening fast. Traditional ways of making games is going to disappear.
