all modern CAT rated and certified cables are safe to install in interior walls—aside from proving they can move the speeds they say they do, that’s the whole point of rating & certifying. i would recommend CAT5e and above for modern applications. as for POE, 5e can handle the basic version. above that, CAT6+ should be fine

To me, the Mac mini now starting at $799 instead of $599 is obviously a price increase. Sure, the 512GB configuration did not receive a price increase, but the Mac mini product line as a whole did. You can't buy a Mac mini for $599 anymore. This is very straightforward.

@rsgnl @mweinbach I see where Max is coming from. It’s more of an analysts opinion not a consumer opinion. Consumers don’t see things as SKU etc they just want to know ‘hey how much am I going to pay to become part of the Apple ecosystem’. That’s now increased. The $599 mini was an amazing price.

@Metaphor @mweinbach I agree, but there is no reconciling this seemingly. Max and others are viewing this at the SKU level and we are viewing this at the product level. I guess everyone is right. No price increase at SKU level. Price increase at product level.

@mweinbach @rsgnl Here is the thing. Entry Mac mini at $599 is now not an option. Can’t blame Apple for that they clearly have supply and cost issues as other companies do. But. Practically the price of entry into that product line has increased. So you can clearly call that a price increase.

@JoannaStern Have an m2 air. Gets pretty hot. Ok while playing Civ. But it’s the perfect laptop for my other work as in web dev etc. should I go MacBook Pro?

Also, obviously this increase of MacBook Air makes a lot of room for a cheaper MacBook to come into the line up.

I think i am going to open a non profit cat cafe in Pittsburgh. Where you can chill w rescue cats while working. I'll team w CMU & Pitt, getting students alongside mentors to build AI, robotics & tech for it thus allowing the public to interact w kitties via donations or adopt.

I wish the Pro Max could be thinner. That's the real future! I would love a thin iPhone, but I would likely regret the iPhone Air over time. Battery life is paramount, so I am leaning towards the iPhone 17 Pro Max + Anker Slim MagSafe Battery.
