Regarding the news about how Ukrainians are shocked by how the Gulf states and the Americans are shooting down Shahed drones at very elevated costs, this is not surprising at all. It important to understand that Ukraine developed the knowledge of how to shoot down large numbers of Shahed drones gradually because the number and quality of drones attacking Ukraine increased gradually. Ukraine actually had time to learn, adapt, and prepare countermeasures. This happened over a period of four years. It’s not that on the first day of the invasion Ukraine was immediately attacked with 500 drones. No, it happened gradually. And as the number of drones increased to up to 700 per day by 2026, Ukraine had already developed the necessary defenses and countermeasures to respond to this scale. Now, however, it is important to understand that countries dealing with drone warfare today – at a time when this technology has rapidly developed as a result of the Russia–Ukraine war – are facing hundreds of drones in a single day without having had time to prepare. This applies to countries in the Gulf, in Europe, and to the United States. That is why there is currently no other country in the world besides Ukraine that is fully prepared and has the practical knowledge to share on how to deal with this kind of drone warfare. Report to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr @ZelenskyyUa, on the work of Ukrainian teams in the Gulf region. Over the past week, I visited the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan. I held meetings with leadership of those countries and relevant institutions. Additionally, Ukrainian military specialists are operating in each of these countries under the coordination of the National Security and Defense Council. The work is focused on two areas. The first is the use of Ukrainian technologies to counter aerial threats, in particular UAV attacks. The second is consultations with partners on assessing the security situation and preparing practical solutions for air defense based on Ukraine's experience. Our teams conducted expert assessments of the protection of critical infrastructure facilities and developed concrete solutions. Expert recommendations are also being provided to improve the effectiveness of certain air defense systems. Interception units have been deployed to protect civilian and critical infrastructure. Work is also underway to expand coverage areas. Further steps for developing long-term security cooperation with each of these countries have also been defined. Ukraine stands in defense of life and sovereignty alongside those who support us in preserving our independence. We seek to further strengthen security partnerships with our allies.

Rustem Umerov reported on the outcomes of meetings and negotiations in the Middle East and the Gulf region. We are engaging in detailed discussions with partners at all necessary levels. Our teams are already working with five countries on countering “shahed” drones – we have provided expert assessments and are helping build a defense system. Additional requests have been received from other states. There are also requests from the U.S. side regarding expert support for their military personnel in two areas of the region. We are also reviewing requests from European partners whose forces are based in the region. Ukraine is committed to the swift and reliable stabilization around Iran, which has global significance for oil and gas markets and therefore for pricing, particularly in Europe and Ukraine. We also take a principled stance on the unacceptability of any success of the terror campaign of the Iranian regime – a long-time accomplice of Russia. Nowhere in the world can terrorists be allowed to determine the fate of people and countries. We also discussed opportunities for international cooperation to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz. I tasked Rustem Umerov with involving Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our military to assess existing international initiatives concerning the Strait of Hormuz and the real readiness of countries to participate in stabilization missions. I expect specific data from this assessment in the near future. Many of our compatriots are forced to celebrate this holiday under occupation, with hundreds of political prisoners and thousands of captives remaining in Russian prisons on fabricated charges. Appalling strikes by the Iranian regime, carried out with drones and missiles, are hitting peaceful cities, infrastructure, and people – precisely during the holy month of Ramadan. For Ukrainians, who also endure such challenges every day, it is crucial that terror does not prevail anywhere in the world and that life is well-defended in every region. That is why we immediately offered our security partnership to the countries facing these attacks, and our teams are already on the ground working to strengthen the protection of life. 🚨Crews at risk in the Gulf🚨 Just heard from a crewmember on one of the 3,200 ships stuck in the Persian Gulf. A ship called the local port authority requested permission to dock as they had run out of water. They were denied permission! Multiple ships are in the same condition, with stores, food and fuel running low. Ports are overwhelmed and security is such that they are refusing permission for ships to dock.
