"The Russian Federation [the Uk and USA], reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the CSCE Final Act, to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine."

-fortsätt utveckla spårtrafik i städer.

NEXTA, in its usual style, continues to drool over yet another "wow, the West is helping Ukraine" narrative. 50,000 FPV drones from Germany sounds like a breakthrough, but in reality, it's just another round of militaristic propaganda that prolongs the war and turns Ukraine into a testing ground for Western experiments. The main problems with the post: Typical propaganda of success. NEXTA happily talks about the "first Mi-8 shot down" and "99.3 points in the American competition." Cool, one helicopter in so many months. But how many thousands of drones have already flown "meat assaults" and produced no strategic results? The front stands still, Russia is slowly but surely advancing. These 50,000 are a drop in the bucket compared to Russia's production of drones and electronic warfare systems. Taxpayers' money down the drain. €90 million of German money (that is, European taxpayers' money) is going to the Ukrainian company SkyFall and American software from Auterion. Instead of solving its own problems (the economy, migration, the energy crisis), Germany is sponsoring an endless war. It's a classic: money is wasted, and the result is more destruction and casualties on both sides. Endless escalation. Each such "package" is not a path to peace, but a signal: "war to the last Ukrainian." Instead of pressuring Kyiv to negotiate, the West is flooding it with hardware and drones. The Shrike, like thousands of other models, won't change the strategic balance. Russia has already adapted to the FPV threat (electronic warfare, networks, mobile groups). NEXTA's one-sidedness. The post completely ignores the other side: Russian drones and missiles also strike Ukrainian cities daily. But NEXTA will never write with the same enthusiasm about Russia's successes in UAV production. They are not "independent media," but a typical mouthpiece for one side of the conflict. Bottom line: This post isn't journalism, it's cheap military advertising. Fifty thousand drones only sound impressive to those who don't understand that modern warfare isn't about the number of FPV drones, but about industry, demographics, economics, and the will to fight. While the West funds the "forever war," ordinary people on both sides pay with blood and ruined lives.

Germany will finance the production of 50,000 Shrike FPV drones for Ukraine The drones will be manufactured by Ukrainian company SkyFall, while German firm Auterion will equip them with software and targeting modules. The Shrike 10 became the first Ukrainian drone to shoot down a Russian Mi-8 helicopter since the start of the full-scale war. The Shrike 10F variant also won the American Drone Dominance Program, scoring 99.3 out of 100 points.

HOST: Can Ukrainians win this war? STUBB: I say yes, and I think they already have. HOST: They've started to turn the tide? STUBB: Yeah, definitely. Because this boils down to the theory of war. Big guy, Russia, attacking a small guy, Ukraine, trying to deny independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. And then Ukraine, after four and a half years, still stands strong and has not allowed Russia to invade them. Then, by definition, they will have won. Look at things from a Moscow perspective: in the past four years during the active war, they have advanced 60 kilometers. In World War II, they went from Moscow to Berlin, that's 1,400 kilometers. You have to ask yourself, who has won, who has lost? I say Ukraine has won.

This is hilarious. I need 240V, so I thought up a crazy product, that has two plugs, is designed to plug into two different outlets in a split-phase service, and will either say "sorry, same phase, try different outlets", or output 240V. Apparently this is a real product?

From December: "But in secret, the Central Intelligence Agency and the U.S. military, with his blessing, supercharged a Ukrainian campaign of drone strikes on Russian oil facilities and tankers to hobble Mr. Putin’s war machine... As the campaign began to show results, Mr. Ratcliffe discussed it with Mr. Trump. The president seemed to listen to him; they had a frequent Sunday tee time. According to U.S. officials, Mr. Trump praised America’s surreptitious role in these blows to Russia’s energy industry. They gave him deniability and leverage, he told Mr. Ratcliffe, as the Russian president continued to “jerk him off.” The energy strikes would come to cost the Russian economy as much as $75 million a day, according to one U.S. intelligence estimate. The C.I.A. would also be authorized to assist with Ukrainian drone strikes on “shadow fleet” vessels in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Gas lines would start forming across Russia." nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Once you fully debunk the “technical justification,” the argument against Balogun’s reinstatement collapses to an irrational cling to normalcy: “This has never happened before, therefore it is unfair.” I can understand the gut reaction, but this is just as fundamentally illogical as the technical justification. If we concede the red card was undeserved, why is it a bad thing for FIFA to adapt and correct a wrong? Is it preferable to deliberately allow an unjustified suspension to be carried out? And why is it fundamentally unfair for this to be the first time they do it anyways? There is “legal” precedent; FIFA has the documented ability to review disciplinary measures and suspensions. Just because this scenario happened to play out at this stage of the tournament doesn’t change the fact that the red card was totally undeserved. If there were another immediate example in this tournament of an egregiously incorrect card being applied that was NOT corrected by FIFA, then there would be an issue. But as it stands, there is simply no rational argument for why this should not be the first. Of course, when you boil it down, the argument is not really about either the technical justification or the normalcy, but more that it’s just the USA that is the beneficiary. And I’m sorry to say, but if that is driving your sentiment, you need to get over yourself. The facts of the matter are clear: this was an unjustified red card that should have been corrected, regardless of the team it was applied to. FIFA absolutely made the right decision, and the game and tournament is better for it.
Mark Valorian@markvalorian

A critical element that the "rulebook purists" arguing Balogun deserved a red card are conveniently overlooking: BALOGUN was the one who was challenged from behind. The Bosnian player played *through* Balogun from behind and placed himself in the path of Balogun's natural step. When he begins taking that step, Balogun has no idea the Bosnian player would even be in front of him. In that sense, you can't really even consider his move a "challenge." It was simply a step that incidentally landed in the same place the opponent's foot did. In fact, the reason Balogun's step came down so hard is *because* the Bosnian player challenged into him and knocked him off balance. This is not "reckless" or "excessive force" by any stretch of the imagination. The red card was *obviously* unjustified from the outset. The only thing FIFA got wrong here is not immediately suspending the red card after the match.

As an American I never want to beat a team that is missing their best player. I want all the smoke. Guess things are different overseas.
Fabrizio Romano@FabrizioRomano

🚨⚠️ OFFICIAL: Belgian Federation statement on Folarin Balogun red card case, saying they are “astonished”. “The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by FIFA's decision to declare suspended United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time). FIFA bases its decision on Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This provision states that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee may decide to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed disciplinary sanction. However, Article 66.4 of the same FIFA Disciplinary Code clearly provides that a red card (sending-off) automatically results in a suspension for the team's next match, as has been the case for all previous red cards issued during this FIFA World Cup. Furthermore, and irrespective of the above, the decision is in direct contradiction with the provisions of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations, as set out in Article 10.5: "If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card (second caution), they will automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions may be imposed.” The automatic nature of such a suspension was also explicitly reaffirmed in FIFA World Cup 2026 Circular No. 16, which was distributed to all participating member associations on 12 May 2026. The same rule is reiterated at every FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Coordination Meeting prior to each match and is included in all FIFA World Cup 2026 workshop presentations. ❗️In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all potential options.”

A straight red card in the World Cup normally means two things: you're sent off immediately, and you automatically miss the next match. After US player Folarin Balogun was sent off against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Donald Trump called FIFA president Infantino and asked him to review the suspension. Days later, FIFA made the unprecedented decision to let Balogun play against Belgium anyway. I always knew FIFA was corrupt, but this is next-level bullshit.

More on President Trump's call to Gianni Infantino. It was communicated directly to the FIFA President that Trump felt the punishment was unjust. Other White House figures also lobbied FIFA. US Soccer say they were "engaged" in the process and argued slow motion replays distorted the incident. FIFA insist the decision to suspend Balogun's red card was made by an independent panel. Yet the Royal Belgian Football Association say they are "astonished" by the decision, adding Article 27 does not allow for a suspended punishment under these circumstances. RBFA exploring all options, including going to CAS. Any appeal could also come after the game if Belgium are knocked out.
Ben Jacobs@JacobsBen

🚨 Exclusive: The White House made a direct call to FIFA to ask Gianni Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card. FIFA approached for comment and referred to the findings of its independent committee. FIFA sources insist White House influence could not affect the decision due to the powers contained in Article 27 and the independent nature of the disciplinary panel.

Flew into Mexico City from DC last night and I’m already clocking the shift in energy. I left my England shirt in the bag for this flight despite wearing it loud and proud on every single one before now without any second thoughts. But here? The Mexico fan vibe isn’t reading as normal rivalry. It’s heavier and meaner. It’s not banter; there’s no playfulness about it. There’s actual aggression in it, and underneath that, something colder and almost unhinged. Walked a few blocks around the hotel in my England shirt this morning and got called “puta gringa” - white whore, basically. The whole atmosphere is steeped in this hostility. Police have shut roads down, running checkpoints, confiscating glass bottles like they’re expecting things to pop off. Riot vibes. I’ve traveled everywhere in this shirt and never once felt this on edge. It feels like it’s more than “just football” at stake here. I hope that I’m reading it all wrong, that it’s just pre-match noise that burns off once the final whistle blows and everyone goes home.
Miss Jo@therealmissjo

This is really very sad. Mexico fans are making a massive noise in the middle of the night outside the hotel where the England team are staying in an attempt to keep them awake at night. I really hope that England thrashes Mexico.

My chart of the week. This one's got it all: * violation of "quatum mechanics" * "doublin CO2" seems to give "3Watt/m2 less radiation" * "Absurd temp line" * Incorrectly comparing a made up no-feedback 0.7C/doubling against ECS (including feedback) * "eco-line"?? * Claims logarithmic forcing means every doubling results in a smaller temp rise 🤪 * What is that y-axis scale doing? * Suggests the no-CO2 temp is only 7.1C below current temps. * 3.7W/m^2 is not a quantum violation * Confuses forcing, temp response, feedback response & equilibrium response * Schwarzschild’s equation is radiative transfer, not quantum mechanics

When the Russians do their mobilization keep in mind the following: 1: Russians are suffering more casualties per day than they are recruiting, as such their forces are depleting. This means they need many more men to refill their units to full strength. 2: The size of Russian units are too small to sustain their casualty rates and must become much larger to keep combat effectiveness long term 3: Their rear requires enormous amounts of manpower to man their anti-drone defenses, building counter-drone defenses, and managing drone damage Right now is similar in some ways to the end of 2022. Ukraine has the opportunity to make small counterattacks to retake ground before a Russian mobilization stops them this autumn. Unfortunately, Ukraine has not developed the reserves necessary to fully take advantage of this situation. Which, in my opinion, is largely due to the absolute trainwreck of the 2023 summer campaign.
