One of my favorite lessons from Wayne Dyer: What comes out is what’s inside. And if you don't like what’s inside, you can change it.

PARENTS: When you blame other things (officials, coaches, conditions, circumstances, teammates) for the situation your son or daughter is in, then you're essentially teaching your child how to be an excuse maker. Set the standard. Be the standard.

“The competition isn’t where you win. You win on the practice field. You win by putting in the reps on a random Tuesday when no one is watching, not gearing up for a match with Harvard on Saturday. Success is found in the preparation.” -Paul Assaiante

"Winning requires you to be different and different scares people. Some individuals compete just to finish. Some people win at winning. You are either interested or obsessed. Interested is a hobby. Obsession comes in the small details that no one pays attention to."

"The game teaches you about life, about commitment, perseverance, coexisting with others, handling success, and dealing with failure. It will challenge you. It will encourage you. And, if you are lucky, it will reward you too. " @realgranthill33

"It's not what you're capable of, it's what you're willing to do. I know plenty of people that are capable, I know fewer that are willing. Will is a powerful thing. Ask yourself, "What are you willing to do?" —Mike Tomlin #TheLeadersMind 🏆 📚 amazon.com/Leaders-Mind-P…

If you have a former coach who you can still call, Snap, Facebook, text, FaceTime, etc. then you had a coach who put you first & created lifelong, caring relationships with players. That isn’t always the case, so consider yourself lucky & keep those relationships close to heart!

"I think the important thing that sports teaches is so many life skills. You learn - how to handle adversity, how to sacrifice, you learn discipline...and a lot of commitment. If you want to really be good, you have to be willing to make the sacrifice." @MuffetMcGraw

During practice, selfless teammates will momentarily put aside their friendships & compete against each other because they care about the team’s success in competition! Practice the way you play! It’s never personal. It’s just necessary for real preparation. Competing IS caring!

I played D1 basketball for 4 years, but grew up competing in: Swimming Baseball Football Track Soccer Volleyball And guess what? I never burned out & only missed 1 practice from injury in my college career. Specializing at a young age has its downfalls. Don’t make them choose!

Do you lead the TEAM? Player led teams have players who enthusiastically support their TEAM regardless if they earn playing time. Player led teams have parents who cheer for the TEAM regardless if their kid earns playing time. Do your actions help your child lead the TEAM?

"All I did was watch the kid interact. I want to see where do they sit on the bench? Do they cheer for their teammate? How do they interact with their coach? When talent is equal, character will make the DIFFERENCE. "Talent is a gift. Character is a choice"-John Maxwell

There's a trend playing out in coaching that we need to be paying attention to. Good coaches are quitting, preferring to walk away than put themselves and their families through the lifestyle. Sports should be the bastion of leadership, not the industry leaders are fleeing. 👇

“In moments when you're not showing what you can be, you continue to compete, encourage, & be disciplined. It turns. Most people quit before the turn. They're not ready to endure the length of the trial. You don’t sit back & wait for something to turn- you go make it happen.”
