@1651Hobbes @jim_keats @johnkonrad To the extent that “Live, and let live.” arguably is the core concept of traditional, or “classical” Western Liberalism, it then can be fairly argued that compatibility with this core value is a valid litmus test for all groups, or individuals to be measured against.

I used to find him rather entertaining, but I never took him too seriously. What he did inspire me to do was to look beyond the established dogma, and pay at least some attention to alternative perspectives. In other words, he was a mostly positive influence on my life. What’s interesting is that after half a century I only really remember that he called his organization “The Worldwide Church of God,” and he was a particularly charismatic speaker. Perhaps it might be interesting to see if any of his old radio broadcasts are preserved anywhere. I would be interested in listening to a few of his broadcasts, to see what I think of them now.

Yes, it took me much longer to type out than it took me to actually do the math in my head. Mostly because I memorized the times tables in elementary school. The fact that Germany declared war upon the United States, right after their ally Japan attacked us, is the reason why we were in the war. They were the aggressors. Look up something called the “just war theory” to understand why this is important. Fighting back was self defense. With everything that happened afterwards, during the war, arguably being both Germany, and Japan getting what they deserved.

Figuring out how to explain to a young person that Germany declared war on us over 80 years ago, we fought back and won, and we have owed them ever since.

We all need to step up, and start helping ourselves. Next month is the filing deadline to be a candidate for office here in Rhode Island. Far too many incumbents, particularly at the local level, will unfortunately be reelected, by default, due to a lack of available challengers. Anyone reading this can step up, and make a difference in your community. Who is better than you are to represent your beliefs, and values in your local government? All that you need to do is get involved. If you are someone with a “classic liberal,” or moderately libertarian leaning political orientation, then send me a private message. @JBFlint I’ve had a couple of security theater encounters while traveling via Amtrak. None yet while traveling via buses, or commuter trains. Fortunately, I don’t take any kind of public transportation that often.

Flying changed dramatically after 9-11 but buses and trains remain the same; no detectors to get on a bus or train. Tickets aren't even typically checked until you're on the train and seated. Do I want a world where getting on a bus or train is like flying? No. But still...

Pro tip: If your car can be shut off by your government, without your consent and without due process if you fail to comply, that's not vehicle ownership. It's tyranny.

Accounting for U.S. population growth since and ongoing intermarriage, a prudent conservative figure today is in the 8–10 million range. This remains an approximation—many lineages overlap, records are incomplete, and not every veteran left surviving descendants. Exact verification for all would be impractical.
