Since my primary news aggregator insists upon limiting the number of accounts that I can follow, while also making it difficult for me to filter what I want to see, I am setting up this new account in order to focus upon Rhode Island issues, and politics.

Here in Rhode Island our gaming revenues are supposed to be paying. I’m old enough to remember all of the political promises from the early Seventies. They got legalized gambling passed by promising that ALL of the money raised would be spent “for the children” on educational programs. Back then, as a child myself, I actually was ignorant enough to believe, and thus very clearly remember those many promises.

When I ran for Congress, back in 1996, District One included all of both Newport, and Bristol counties, plus half of the City of Providence, and all of Central Falls, East Providence, North Providence, North Smithfield, Burrilville, Cumberland, Lincoln, Pawtucket, Smithfield, and Woonsocket in Providence County. In other words half of the City of Providence, plus half of all of the other municipalities in Rhode Island. Have our Rhode Island population demographics really changed that much since then? I would be very curious to see our Rhode Island municipal population numbers from both the 1990, and 2020 Federal Censuses. (To the best of my memory the boundary line, in Providence, ran down the middle of Smith Street from the North Providence town line to a line down the middle of the Moshassuck, and Providence Rivers.)

The consultant drew a RI congressional map in 2012 that had Prov, Pawt, CF, Woon, Cumb, Lincoln and EP in CD1, everyone else in CD2. It was compact and logical but pretty much guaranteed a GOP win in CD2. It never saw the light of day.

We all need to step up, and start helping ourselves. Next month is the filing deadline to be a candidate for office here in Rhode Island. Far too many incumbents, particularly at the local level, will unfortunately be reelected, by default, due to a lack of available challengers. Anyone reading this can step up, and make a difference in your community. Who is better than you are to represent your beliefs, and values in your local government? @wakeupusa We already have term limits. During every single election. Our problem is that we don’t use them enough. When in doubt, vote everyone out! Give someone new a chance at the job. Maybe then we can get some changes made.

Years ago .@BrownUniversity .@BrownMedicine used to have an accelerated program where they combined both undergraduate, and medical degrees into six years. While they still have a combined admissions, and dual degrees program, it currently requires the standard eight years to complete. Both .@SenWhitehouse .@SheldonforRI, and his wife Sandra Thornton Whitehouse, probably should more accurately be described as being climate grifters, not climate scientists. There probably are many others like them who are out there. Who knows whether, or not they sincerely care about improving either humanity, or the environment.
