The majority here in Virginia still believe in Election DAY. Not Election Week, or Month, or Quarter. We don’t think there should be absentee voting, except if you actually can’t make it to the polls on Election Day. We don’t approve of early voting or mail-in ballots. And we certainly don’t trust political polls. So, let’s wait until April 22.

I’ve been nomadic since retiring and have lived in apartments for a while. Direct sunlight is a crap shoot based on where your apartment is. I’m finally in a place that gets a good six hours of direct sun, so I planted an herb garden. For this city girl, this is a big deal!

@ksorbs I remember back in the 80s when people were moving out of California and moving into Oregon. The signs all over Portland were “Don’t Californicate Oregon.” But, obviously that didn’t stop the migration. Cancer, when left unchecked, just spreads until it kills the victim.

That was in response to Sputnik. You think I’m kidding, but New Math was the education establishment’s response to the mistaken theory that the teaching of math in America was something inferior to that in the Soviet Union. In other words, we tried to fix a system that wasn’t broken, and ended up breaking the original system. And, we’ve been trying to fix the fix ever since.

@MrDanielBuck We could go all the way back to my childhood and the New Math, a fad where some genius decided that children should learn set theory before learning basic arithmetic.

What have schools of education given us? - Whole language - Discovery math - Ending standardized testing - Ending tracking - Ending gifted programs - Social-emotional learning - Equity grading - White fragility - Microaggressions - Critical pedagogy Not a great record

I taught in schools for “gifted” children in St. Louis for twelve years until 2023. To my knowledge, those gifted programs haven’t been canceled. If anything, they’ve been expanded. So, when you write “ending gifted programs,” I have no idea what you’re talking about. Please provide evidence to support your claim.

@MrDanielBuck Ending gifted programs is the most egregious. We should be identifying these kids and maximizing their potential.

You’ve spent how many years in education? Thirty? Forty? I’ve spent fifty-five years selling, advising, and teaching doctors. You claim to know much about formal education. What I said about doctors, I’ve known since 1971. They used to work for themselves, however, those days are long gone.

@MickKenney @waltduro @NancyH_60 If you’re not being sarcastic, you’re really warped in your thinking. Doctors have to be so smart and study for years. And unlike educators, an overwhelming number of doctors live prosperous lives and have financial freedom.

Unpopular parenting opinion: I'm fine with my kids missing school for travel. Before anyone panics-yes, we absolutely try to travel during school breaks. But real life doesn't always line up perfectly... and I'm not skipping meaningful family experiences just to keep an attendance record spotless. These trips have given us connection, perspective, and memories we still talk about years later. I'll take that trade every time. I’d love to hear your opinion on taking kids out of school for vacation. I personally do not have a problem with it.

The wave of phone bans happening across the country is so heartening because it's one of the only movements in education that takes reality seriously. These bans were necessary even when it was just TikTok in everybody's pocket, but now, with the advent of AI, it is urgent we get ChatGPT, a virtually undetectable cheating device, out of the hands of students. Without doing so, a teacher is just left assessing who best cheats discreetly, not who learns the most. Next step: get rid of the damn Chromebooks!

You must be so proud of your son. As a doctor, he does exactly what he’s told to do by the hospital group he works for, who works for the pharmaceutical and medical equipment firms that own that group. Perhaps if you had taken him out of school more often, he wouldn’t be stuck in a dead-end job that he hates. Just a thought.

@NancyH_60 I wouldn’t put my kids, grandkids, or great grandkids in a traditional school if I had my way. So, I wouldn’t have to pull them out of a school to begin with. Does that answer your question?

Aside from her truthful statement that she voted against the SAVE America Act, everything else Rep. Ilhan Omar says about the bill is false Where do they all get the idea to tell the same lies—with such uncanny precision?
Mike Lee@BasedMikeLee

This is just a complete lie Literally every part of that sentence is a lie House and Senate Democrats are out of touch with the American people—and even most Democrat voters—when it comes to the SAVE America Act

@0Beanie05923291 When you reward people for doing anything, you’re reinforcing that behavior and you get more of it. When you reward a kid with an “A+” for whining and complaining about his “C-“ grade, you’re reinforcing that behavior and you get more of it.’

@toslap @rebelEducator Just because you’re “rich” doesn’t mean you’re intelligent. I know lots of “rich” people who are as dumb as dirt … and that’s an insult to dirt.

@DoneWithLies26 @rebelEducator Okay, let me make it simple for you. Schools have a big problem. Nobody wants them anymore. People want an easy fix, like smartphones with AI. Please read that back to me so that I know you understand.
