So it appears that this bill, if passed, would allow the State to install solar arrays on state forest land without local town approval. Need I remind you that solar upstate is, by far, the least efficient and least reliable energy source and can despoil the land? Madness.

@EmilyAssembly It is not. When California increased the share of solar and wind, electricity bills went up. Do you fly? Use a laptop? Wear sneakers? All require fossil fuels. And a reminder that raising state taxes via your "climate bill" will have no effect on global weather. None.

Sad details are many of the downstate politicians that are in the state legislature are living paycheck to paycheck. Several have filed bankruptcy, had homes foreclosed and use pay check services to get loans for future expenses. I understand sometimes there are tough times but these people are deciding how funds and budgets get distributed. Not good.

A state lawmaker from Queens is pushing for more pay for members of the state senate and assembly. The bill from Senate Democrat James Sanders would give members of both chambers a $38,000 increase -- raising their annual pay from $142,000 to $180,000. It would take effect in 2028, and then be adjusted each year for inflation. Lawmakers got a $32,000 raise four years ago and are among the highest paid state legislators in the country.
