Myles Lewis-Skelly enjoying himself in midfield. He completed 39 of his 41 passes and won six out of seven duels in that half. Typically tidy under pressure and three fouls won too. #afc

@markpougatch Without VAR, Luis Diaz’s all-time monster goal would have been incorrectly chalked off. Added plenty of joy. (To me at least)

These two nights surely show that VAR is a curse & a busted flush. Two deflected handballs given as pens & then ignoring their own edict about clear & obvious error. VAR is sucking the life & joy out of the beautiful game #VAR

If there's a lasting impact to Charles's state visit it should be to knock the Trump flattery approach on its head once and for all. Visiting leaders can speak home truths.

@henrywinter Surely total football includes some semblance of defence. I appreciate this may seem like a flippant comment from an Arsenal fan but I agree it was exhilarating and incredibly football, but total it is not

One of the greatest games in recent memory. Positivity in motion. Total football, total entertainment. Some of the best players in the world on view. Kvaratskhelia, Dembele, Doue, Kane, Olise, Luis Diaz, and others. A lot of talk about how fresh PSG and Bayern Munich players look. Dominate their leagues so can rest and rotate. Also helps they have a winter break. Two weeks in France. Three weeks in Germany. The English plough on through winter, of course. Food for thought for the Premier League after this feast of football. But football of this exceptional calibre and pace is also a mindset and philosophy. Encouraged by enlightened coaches. Good players told to go out there and express themselves. Little diving or dissent, just elite competitors getting on with the game. A great game. Encore 🙌 #PSGBAY

@Knox_Harrington The other best thing is that it shows us that all the hand wringing and moral outrage about the Qatar World Cup was performative virtue signaling in it’s most blatant form

The best thing about the forthcoming World Cup is that it will tell us what 75% of people involved in football and football infrastructure would love to do with football supporters if only they could get away with it.

BREAKING NJ Transit confirm @TheAthleticFC report of $150 round-trip rail tickets to World Cup at MetLife Stadium. Alternative bus service is $80 (!) per passenger. Locals in area to be asked to work from home if possible to help flow of stations. nytimes.com/athletic/72054…

@Langton_Steve @DrLKVaughan @medicalmodelbri Maybe junior doctors were prescient in changing their designation to residents and we should adopt full American style nomenclature with our consultants becoming attendings. We can then welcome the full on privatisation of our healthcare with open arms

The 'Centre for Advancing Practice' have an interesting definition of 'consultant' practice. I read English quite well but I don't understand this ill-written prose at all, which doesn't reflect my understanding of what a consultant is - at all @DrLKVaughan @medicalmodelbri

@DPJHodges Gotta give it to you. I strongly disagree with you on most topics. Occasionally, you express an opinion that is the opposite of what I assume based on your prior beliefs, which suggests to me you are applying a critical and not ideological lense to things. I respect that a lot.

If you want to argue public spaces should not be used for worship - because that’s exclusionary - fine. But condemning just one religious group, in this case Muslims, is bigotry. I’m not sure what the debate is.

_ more 19th C context, reality check: “Dome of the Rock” in *1862* stands neglected and derelict, held little import to anyone, including Muslims, for centuries — [fabled destination of Muhammad's 'Night Journey', presumably one of the "Holiest" sites in Islam?? Note: no tiles, no 'Golden' dome,  just the shell of an old Byzantine-pattern octagonal shrine, and faced with typical Byzantine decoration, marble slabs w/ Roman-Byzantine geometric designs.] ZOOM in, inspect its state of disrepair... _

Jerusalem, 1862. At this time, there were only about 14,000 people living inside Jerusalem, of whom over 10,000 were Jewish. In 1948, Palestinians ethnically cleansed this entire area, until not a single Jew remained in East Jerusalem. Most of these stolen homes have not been returned to the indigenous Jews by Palestinians to this very day.

@scottjwillis Very strange. It’s been a brilliant game plane by Chelsea apparently. Do the Chelsea players , coach, or commentators know that Chelsea are losing. This might be a Benfica in the CL scenario. Hope someone tells them at halftime

"This game has gone more Liam Rosenior plan rather more than Mikel Arteta's" Say the commentators as Chelsea have gone into halftime still down and not creating any notable threat to change that they are losing in the overall tie. So weird.

@NickKristof I don’t understand this whole ‘if Trump was a Russian plant’ line of argument. Who does it persuade? It only serves to reignite the Russian hoax idiocy. There are so many reasons that this is wrong but you think ‘this helps Russia’ is some kind of clincher.

With the Greenland threats, the US has gone from advancing the interests of leading democracies to advancing the interests of Russia and China. If Trump were on Putin's payroll, he could not be helping Russia more. This is a period that we Americans will look back on with shame.
Kaja Kallas@kajakallas

China and Russia must be having a field day. They are the ones who benefit from divisions among Allies. If Greenland’s security is at risk, we can address this inside NATO. Tariffs risk making Europe and the United States poorer and undermine our shared prosperity. We also cannot let our dispute distract us from the our core task of helping to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The best hope for saving NATO and avoiding this escalatory spiral is for leading Republicans to make clear that they are appalled by threats to invade Danish territory and blackmail our European allies. Outrage in the US is more likely to turn Trump around than outrage in Europe. Senate Republicans, this is your moment.

@DanielJHannan @jenninlaca You described the ppl that voted for him for this reason as ‘good’ and the reason as ‘understandable’. Then you told us that despite those ‘good things’ he is now doing ‘bad things’. In reality all of his actions are driven by lobbying and the promise of self enrichment

A lot of good people are on a hook over Donald Trump. They voted for him for understandable reasons: to stop Hillary of Kamala, to prevent court-packing, to move the embassy to Jerusalem, to reduce regulations. They rightly applauded his toughening of immigration policy. They began to feel invested in him. Sure, he was boorish and bombastic, but he was delivering most of what he was elected to do. Naturally, they bridled at criticism from people they disliked, some of which was indeed absurd. But he has plainly now lost his mind. There is no other way of reading “I am going to threaten an ally with invasion because I didn’t get the Nobel Peace Prize”. It is impossible to exaggerate how high the stakes are. If Putin had put an agent in the White House, what would would be doing differently? We are talking about the survival of the Western way of life, about the world order of which the United States is the chief exemplar and beneficiary. That, surely, matters more than “liberal tears”. Doesn’t it? Because if it doesn’t, we are all damned.

It raises major questions, in particular regarding respect for the principles and structure of the United Nations, which cannot under any circumstances be called into question"

Feel sick criticising him but Saka needs to adapt how he shifts the ball before he shoots. I don’t know the numbers but it feels like 50%+ of his shots are blocked. He needs to shift it further or get his shots off quicker
