Contrast this with the typical political phenotype we see today, which is loud, proud, bitter. I don't have faith these people will change when presented with the truth, and I don't have faith that they won't act out their cruelty on me if it's convenient for them

My political tribe is heterodox people (ideally but not exclusively slightly left-of-center) who can admit when they're wrong. Usually they keep their passions in check with the evidence, and if they can admit they're wrong, we can both change each other in the pursuit of truth.

The security guard at the San Diego Mosque who shot back at the Latinx groyper neo-Nazi couple appears to have himself also been a non-white Neo-Nazi. Fascinating

The security guard Amin Abdullah, who was killed in recent attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego, was himself a muslim extremist with jihadist friends. On Facebook, he glorified the extermination of the Jews by Hitler! @FBI

@doedahliah @avery_online @sadsadlady_ The leaps in logic you've made between a man writing about his sexual desires and literal rape is so astounding to me that it can only be described as quasi-psychotic.

@MikeGreger2 @avery_online @sadsadlady_ And mind you male sexuality leads us towards a president who is allowed to say “grab her by the pussy” without punishment, it allows for young girls in Congo to be gang raped, it allows for sexual abuse to occur and be ignored. I don’t care about your feelings on this.

@doedahliah @avery_online @sadsadlady_ Do you know what a predator is or do you just malign male sexuality even in the privacy of their own thoughts and in private message boards? We have no evidence that he did anything to make her uncomfortable. I'm sorry male sexuality is so scary and foreign to you

Interesting fact that a friend at UN Women once put me up on: Most male/female performance categories are "capped at equity." I.e., anything above 50% female as vs a positive metric or 50% male vs a negative metric is just recorded as "equality reached." If 98% of battle casualties and 96% of workplace fatalities are men, 89% of POWs and hostages are men, 62% of degrees are held by women, etc, that's just recorded as "equality." This, presumably, is how we get: "Woman are not recorded as surpassing men in a single one of (166) categories." So, I mean, there's that.
Mike Lee@BasedMikeLee

Women earning 62% of all degrees. Is this “equity”?

This is my core political value: To make progress, you must start with the descriptive (what actually is) rather than the normative (what ought to be). This is why data are central to my politics. Progressives eschew data because they believe moral imperatives and principles (e.g. equality, antiracism) should drive politics. The problem is that the best data often shows these moral imperatives to be detached from statistical and scientific reality.

The dipshit that was like "get your clip elsewhere, fuck off" is such a little slime ball. Totally cool to chant for the murder of your political opponent, but getting that affirmation on record? That's the bad part? Illiberal cunts who cheer for chaos

@houdini73 @glukianoff I understand moral responsibility & how our childhood influences our thinking are theoretically two separate things, and yet people in the dark ages didn't know any better than to believe some awful things. Why should it be any different for 20-year-olds who were taught piffle?

@MikeGreger2 @glukianoff I think you are conflating: i) acknowledging the influence of others vs. ii) ascribing to them moral responsibility for one's own actions or views. These are very different things.

No, we started the conversation by pointing out that adults were teaching you the mental habits of anxious and depressed people, partially in a misguided and often cruel attempt to better motivate you to change the world in their preferred political direction. It's messed up and you should be angry at them for it. Being angry at the people who best explained how you’re being screwed over, doesn’t make any sense.
Rip Van Winkle@SkimpyHippy

@glukianoff @JonHaidt It shows how the totally senile generation (you both) is disconnected with the present/future generations is that you started your conversation with them by attacking their mental capabilities! You dont start a conversation by calling an entire generation as anxious!

@houdini73 @glukianoff What happens in childhood shapes us for the rest of our life. If kids are being taught the thinking habits of anxious ppl, that will shape their minds ON AVERAGE to think in that way more often. This is just what WILL happen; I leave the moral questions to your priest/phil. prof.

@houdini73 @glukianoff Maybe it's useful to have such a moral view bc it encourages personal responsibility & that's beneficial for society. But in practice, without standing on the shoulders of giants, we're completely in the dark. We need to learn about epistemology, clear thinking etc. to think well

@MikeGreger2 @glukianoff I have the opposite view, that regardless of what anyone is taught, at some point they are morally accountable for their own views/actions, and it infantilizes them to blame those views on the influence of precedent authority figures.

@houdini73 @glukianoff Children only become adults who are capable of thinking rationally if they inherit a set of ideas that encourage them to think clearly. All the proof you need is the thousands of years of dark ages where people couldn't think well at all. So no, not paternalistic, just reality.

@glukianoff A very paternalistic take, people are capable of thinking for themselves. This is actually even more insulting. You are too attached to a particular ideology to evaluate this issue clearly.

Something that ASTOUNDS me about progressive zealotry, misusing "equality" to mean "crush white males" etc. is... do they not care how future generations see their equality projects? Surely this will taint their conception of "equality" as having some whiff of radical overreach?
TheTinMen@TheTinMenBlog

Women outnumbering men in global education is seen as some kind of success, whilst the vanishingly few places where men are ahead are ‘important gaps’ to close. The whole system is truly broken.
