EXCLUSIVE Sir Keir Starmer has been forced to drop legislation which would cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius in a further deterioration of relations with Donald Trump The Times has been told that a bill underpinning the controversial deal will not be included in the King's Speech next month after the US president branded it an "act of great stupidity" and withdrew his support The government stands by the deal and will attempt to persuade Trump to change his mind but has acknowledged that it cannot proceed without his backing Ministers are "deeply frustrated" with Trump, who initially supported the deal after extensive discussions between intelligence agencies but changed his mind during a dispute with Nato over plans to seize Greenland The government believes that it puts the future of Diego Garcia, the UK-US base in the islands which has been used during the Iran war, at risk It is concerned that Mauritius will mount a legal challenge granting it access to the waters around Diego Garcia, making it harder for the base to host nuclear submarines and patrol surrounding waters The deal was highly contentious. It would have seen Britain hand over the islands to Mauritius before immediately entering into a 99-year lease for Diego Garcia. The government claimed it would cost £3.5billion, although the Tories disputed this and said it would cost £35billion his over its lifetime. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Our medics were not missing… they were buried. Buried beneath a silence heavier than words, and beneath pain beyond endurance. The survivor, Asaad Al-Nassasra, speaks—his voice bearing witness to loss; to companions who left with him on a humanitarian mission, but he returned alone… leaving them under the soil without a farewell. And on March 30, 2025, the truth emerged as it is: bodies concealed, souls departed, and a wound that will never close. They were deliberately killed by Israeli occupation forces. This is not a story of survival… but a testimony to a tragedy that will remain.

إنّا لله وإنّا إليه راجعون With heavy hearts and our deepest condolences, the targeting of Al-Manar correspondent Haj Ali Shuaib @cheib1970 and Al-Mayadeen reporter Fatima Ftouni @ftounifatima in Jezzine stands as yet another stark reminder of the warcrimes of Zionist Israel against those who choose truth over silence. When the camera becomes a threat, it is because reality itself is too powerful to conceal. Journalists like Ali and Fatima do not merely report events, they preserve them, document them, and ensure they are seen by the world, no matter how uncomfortable that may be. Israel targeting them reflects a deeper fear of exposure, of narratives that cannot be controlled, of images that speak louder than any statement ever could. And yet, despite the danger, despite the obvious attempts to silence them, they persisted. They stand firm in the face of intimidation, carrying the responsibility of truth with courage and clarity. Ali Shuaib and Fatima Fattouh embody a rare kind of resilience... the kind that refuses to yield, even when the cost is high. To the highest Firdaus inshAllah our beautiful martyrs Haj Ali and Fatima.
