Starting in 2027, smartphones sold in the European Union will be required to have user-replaceable batteries designed for greater durability and more charging cycles. Manufacturers must also provide spare parts and repair manuals for at least 10 years after a model is released. This is real pressure against planned obsolescence. It should mean phones that actually last longer, cheaper fixes, and a lot less electronic waste piling up. About time.

@MbarkCherguia I think I'd calmly explain to my kids that the combination of blue socks and tan khakis is only ok if you're wearing a red nose. Also, I wore t-shirts over long sleeve shirts in the 90s, but that it really isn't a flattering look today.

@JohnnyFSE I'd love to see this used to bring accessory charges against judges who release offenders who commit violent crime during the time they would have been incarcerated, or held pretrial. Judges need the opportunity to share in the danger they're putting back on the street.

NEW: Family of a Texas teen loses it as judge sentences him to 25 years in prison for robbing a convenience store. Judge Raquel West was seen torching 18-year-old Caden James Fontenette before handing out the sentence. "There was a time some years ago that there really wasn't even a question... State's attorneys were recommending youthful offenders probation. Let's give everybody an opportunity..." West said. "You don't have a good likelihood of being successful if I were to put you on probation... I'm going to sentence you to a term of 25 years." Fontenette pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery for a 2025 incident where he and two others robbed a convenience store at gunpoint. The suspects were caught on camera assaulting the store clerk. Fontenette will likely be in his 40s when he is released from prison.

@SinaiLawFirm I think the word you mean is conquered. When territory is conquered, the former have no rights to it unless they can conquer it back. This is how its been since humans. There are people who took their former land back, but more who didn't. Conquest is the business of the sword.

On a more serious note, using a phrase like “stolen land” has meaning and actual implications in the real world. Both Santa Monica and W Hollywood city council meetings each start with land acknowledgements that they are sitting on stolen land. We have county supervisors reciting those lines too. It’s both empty virtue signaling and used as a weapon at the same time. It’s empty because no elected official is giving the land back to the tongva just like Billie eilish is not going to get evicted nor will she give her house back. It’s used as a political weapon to attack ‘things one side doesn’t like’ in both local and international politics, and worse, justifying political violence. No land is stolen, just taken. I don’t make the rules, that’s the way history works.

Last night during a riot in Minneapolis, a U.S. citizen was arrested for assaulting officers while carrying a firearm.    The individual showed up to the protest with a gun and a box of ammunition in a bag. The individual threatened violence against law enforcement officers while pointing at his bag.    After law enforcement deployed crowd control measures to calm an increasingly volatile crowd, the individual kicked a metal smoke cannister at officers. He then pushed an officer, and he was arrested for assault. While being arrested he stated he had a firearm, which was located along with a box of ammunition. He was not carrying his concealed carry permit. This is not the peaceful protesting that the First Amendment protects.
