@Devon_Eriksen_ Literally a perfect example of gestalt. The total is more than the sum of the parts.

I can disassemble the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird into its component parts. None of the these component parts is capable of supersonic flight, unless I throw them really hard, and that would be cheating. Therefore, no part of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is capable of supersonic flight. Therefore, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is incapable of supersonic flight. This is called the "fallacy of division". That's a fancy name for not realizing that collection of stuff might be able to do something that none of its parts can.

Let's do a basic thought experiment. Let's slow down our LLM. One layer per minute. One layer per hour. Run one layer of an LLM. Just one. Write the numbers down and post them to Tokyo. Run the next layer. Write them down and post them to Milan. After 100 or so rounds of basic matrix multiplication, scattered across 100 different computers, we finally get one token. Do it again for the next token. And the next. Thousands of rounds of arithmetic, posted between cities by hand, to produce a sentence. At no point in this process has any machine had any awareness of any meaning. Each step is just numbers going into numbers. The meaning only emerges upon observation. We happen to like the results, so we infer meaning. Where's the consciousness? In the pencil? The postman? If you cannot justify consciousness in such a situation then "complex behaviour" is a totally invalid metric for evaluating consciousness. You're just stunned that the eyes of the painting follow you around the room.

Elisjsha Dicken was shopping with his girlfriend at a mall in Indiana when a gunman started shooting in the food court. Putting his own life in danger, Elisjsha confronted the gunman and neutralized him within fifteen seconds... Countless lives were saved. Nicholas Bostic was delivering pizza in Indiana when he saw a house go up in flames. Without hesitating, he ran into the house and pulled four occupants out. He was then told there was a six year old child still inside. Bostic ran back into the fully engulfed home, found the child and while cradling her, he jumped out of a second story window to safety. A lot of attention is given to the worst of society, but we need to remember that the human spirit is still alive and well. These are the people that our attention should be focused on. Our lives are all elevated when we take seriously the responsibility of being our brothers keepers.

Luv ya buddy. But I don’t think limiting the king to “Forever not a retard” does him justice. It’s easy to be “not a retard”. You just have to have a brain and a modicum of common sense. This can be proven by your many retard findings. Chuck Norris wasn’t just “not a retard”. Chuck Norris showed “existing retards” that they could be better and lead them to a life of bad assery full of jiu-jitsu where retardation can’t even find a crevice to exist.

R.I.P Chuck Norris. Forever not a retard.

A valuable lesson in conducting your society. It isn’t enough to be benevolent and righteous. You must be hard and dangerous enough to prevent the monsters from overwhelming you.
Memory Medieval@MemoryMedieval

People will hate this but it has to be said.. Genghis Khan is vastly overrated. Yeah, the Mongols conquered a lot of stuff. They were good at war. But that's it. They didn't contribute to human society in any measurable way that affects anyone today. I will bet money you've never eaten a buuz dumpling or listen to throat singing. A large part of the Mongol's success comes from their sheer brutality towards common folk. And brutalize the common folk they did. Sack a castle and kill everyone. Come back two weeks later when people are rummaging through the wreckage and kill everyone again. Capture a bunch of men, women, and children, and make them march at the head of the army's assault, taking the casualties and filling up moats with their corpses. So sure, the war machine was impressive but the slaughter of millions of peasants is (aside from kind of sickening to consider) entirely unimpressive. And in exchange for the slaughter of so many the world got.... ? Mid asian food and terrible music? Weird horse products? "They are inhuman and beastly, rather monsters than men, thirsting for and drinking blood, tearing and devouring the flesh of dogs and men, dressed in ox-hides, armed with plates of iron... bulky, strong, invincible, untiring... They are without human laws, know no comforts, are more ferocious than lions or bears." - Matthew Paris (English Benedictine monk in the 1240s) "They should be called monsters rather than human beings, thirsting after and drinking blood, tearing apart and devouring the corpses of dogs and humans... Devoid of human laws, they have no knowledge of clemency.." "They are extremely arrogant toward other people, [and] tend to anger... easily... They are the greatest liars in the world in dealing with other people... They are crafty and sly... [and] have an admirable ability to keep their intentions secret... They are messy in their eating and drinking and in their whole way of life, [and] cling fiercely to what they have. They have no conscience about killing other people..." -John of Plano Carpini (1240s) "One cannot sufficiently defame the cruelty and artful ability for deception of that people... a certain ill-bred breed of inhuman humans, whose law is lawlessness, whose wrath is furious... overrunning countless lands, which it is dreadfully devastating, killing and horribly exterminating by fire all who stand in their way." -Ivo of Narbonne (1240s) A disgusting people who happen to get very, very good at warfare but highly overrated by people who value martial excellence.

@LeaderJohnThune Hey boss, you mind suspending the filibuster and passing this here SAVE Act? Kinda weird you’re letting a bunch of folks who were elected based on a fraudulent system continue to impede the solution that would stop them being fraudulent legislators.

Democrats now see government shutdowns as a handy tool to use anytime they don’t get everything they want. They don’t care if they force people to work without pay indefinitely or if they put our national security in jeopardy. They only care about what’s in it for them.

As someone who was once responsible for all U.S. military logistics in the southern half of Afghanistan, I can assure everyone that the U.S. military has always tried to give the troops an occasional nice meal, even when serving on a remote, medieval style outpost and getting attacked every night from across the Pakistani border. It is a morale booster, without any exaggeration. This is not even remotely a new thing. We've always done this in the modern era. Anybody trying to make an issue of this is a subtard moron who not only does not know how things work, but has also established themselves as haters of our fighting men and women.
