Summary of the lastest Starship test flight Key events (in sequence) 1) Liftoff occurred successfully after a scrub the previous day. All 33 Raptor 3 engines on the booster ignited initially. 2) Hot-staging separation was clean shortly after liftoff. 3) The booster experienced engine issues during ascent/boostback (at least one shutdown reported), leading to a shortened boostback burn and an uncontrolled/hard splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico (classified as a failure). 4) The Starship upper stage (Ship 39) lost one Raptor Vacuum engine but continued nominally. 5) It successfully deployed 20 Starlink simulator satellites (plus modified imaging sats), performed an in-space engine relight test, survived atmospheric reentry and peak heating, executed a banking maneuver, and achieved a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean using two engines. It tipped over and exploded post-splashdown as planned for data collection. Overall outcome: Largely successful for a first V3 flight, with most major objectives (ascent, separation, payload deployment, reentry, and ship landing) met despite the booster issues. SpaceX and Elon Musk described it as an "epic" success, providing key data for future reusability and rapid iteration. This was the 12th integrated Starship test flight overall.
