Gonna be blunt and say it feels like the 90s. It’s insane to me how weak the NDP was in the 90s when the Libs were even more right wing than carney is now. Like sorry but I’ve wracked my brains on this for a year now and the only conclusion is that Canadian voters are idiots

A Pride flag in a classroom is not indoctrination, nor is it ideology. It is a visible reminder to young people that they are welcome, respected, valued, and not alone. Bill 25, alongside municipal attempts to ban Pride flags under the guise of “neutrality” sends a deeply concerning message that the identities and existence of 2SLGBTQIA+ people are somehow too controversial to be acknowledged in public life. Public schools should be places where every child feels safe enough to learn, grow, and be themselves. Restricting symbols of inclusion does not strengthen education, it weakens the sense of belonging and safety that students need to succeed. At a time when 2SLGBTQIA+ youth already face disproportionate rates of bullying, isolation, depression, and suicide, governments should be working to expand support, dignity, and understanding, not policing symbols of acceptance. No student should ever be made to feel that who they are is wrong, up for debate, or something that must be hidden to make others comfortable.

@guyfelicella Honestly. Do you believe someone who has decided to off themselves walks or drives to a bridge sees the barrier then just says "ah screw it, guess I cant do it I want to live now". I've known too many people who have done this, once they made the decision nothing stops them.

It’s interesting watching some politicians demand mental health care in the name of “saving lives” but then oppose suicide barriers on bridges when someone is clearly in a mental health crisis. So which is it? Because if the goal is actually preventing death, evidence-based prevention measures shouldn’t suddenly become controversial depending on the politics attached to them.

Imagine if you were an alcoholic, entered recovery, relapsed after treatment, and died from one sip because the alcohol supply was poisoned. People would demand that be fixed immediately. Now you know what it’s like for people using the illegal drug supply.
