People talk about Canada joining the US sometimes, but a less discussed topic in that is: what would Canada's congressional districts look like? I loaded up ridingbuilder and assigned the districts by province and gave it my best shot! Maps below ⬇️ 1/?

@TheOnlyLazarus The map itself is 100% legal, the court does not contest that. There is a question about whether they passed the amendment too close to the 2025 election, that's the only legal standing the opposition has. Gerrymandering is legal in Virginia

@davidslosttt Exactly. COI is such a subjective term it just means whatever the user wants it to mean. That's why we shouldn't use COI as a map drawing benchmark

@MisherKenneth the earmuff district only impacted Safe D seats (there's an argument it was a racial gerrymander but it wasn't a partisan one)
I think the argument about FL-5 is true but you can also make that argument about literally any district on this new map

@davidslosttt The whole justification for the earmuff district was "COI". Same with the old FL05, a district so ugly that it needed to connect 2 cities 4 hours from each other because of a "COI". People in Tallahassee are not in the same community as people in Jacksonville regardless of race.

This is a nonsensical reason to draw a new map. Reapportionment ≠ redistricting. Florida’s new map will have 28 seats, same as the old one.

DeSantis is eyeing a redrawn House map that “addresses his concerns about Florida being undercounted in the Census" and could result in 1-3 new GOP seats, per a person familiar. Many R's in FL hope it's just one seat, another says, amid worries about diluting other districts.

@sarobertsonca This argument is so stupid, people in BR-C could have voted against Pierre if they wanted to. What exactly wasn't fair about it. By the logic that floor crossing is ok because you elect the MP not the party then an mp resigning is also the will of the voters.

Indeed, the “Texas started it” premise is incorrect (plus CA already answered). NY Dems went before TX (see below), to say nothing of the wild existing Dem gerrymanders in places like IL & MD. And to say nothing of admitted 2020 Census miscounts robbing red states of 6-10 seats.

Can conservatives from the US explain to me why the VA gerrymander (which was approved by voters) is not OK, while the one in TX and others in the South are? Please make a serious, good-faith effort. No German random posters please.
