When Fiona, an inmate at the Windhoek Correctional Facility, realised she was pregnant at 17, fear set in. Months passed before her body showed signs of pregnancy. When she told the man she believed was responsible, he denied it and cut off contact. f.mtr.cool/ujprvcpupa

A Namibian professional footballer has won his asylum battle in the United Kingdom after a tribunal ruled that he faces a risk of persecution if deported to Namibia.
British media outlet The Telegraph reports that the footballer, whose identity remains protected, fled Namibia after being allegedly outed as bisexual following a same-sex relationship with a distant cousin while both were playing professional football.
The tribunal heard that the relationship became known to family members after the pair separated when the player began dating a woman. The fallout, the court was told, led to severe abuse at the hands of relatives.
Evidence before the court stated that the man was subjected to sustained verbal and physical violence, including being whipped by his grandfather. In a later assault in 2011, his great-grandfather allegedly kicked him in the groin, causing injuries that resulted in the loss of his left testicle.
The footballer later attempted to rebuild his life and, according to the tribunal, sought to “fit in” socially after the incident. However, the court heard that he was again attacked after being recognised in a bar, where he was reportedly beaten unconscious.
The man first applied for asylum in Britain in May 2018, but the Home Office rejected the application, arguing that not all parts of Namibia were hostile toward same-sex relationships and that he could seek protection from the Namibian authorities.
After several failed appeals, the case was reconsidered by the upper tribunal, which examined further evidence, including expert testimony on the conditions faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Namibia.
The court heard that there are no areas in the country where an openly LGBTQ+ person could live without fear of harm and that homophobia in Namibia is increasing.
The footballer, now in his thirties, is currently living in Glasgow with a female partner from Namibia.
No one from the LGBTQI+ community has ever been arrested in the country due to their sexual orientation.

@RealXavier011 Our countries need connectivity more than perfect local control on paper. Prioritize the people's needs over ideology. Appeal granted, flexible partnership

@CharlotteCGill We've imported all of our troubles. So, let us buy a tract of land from Namibia (pop 3.5, gdp £13bn), and send all of our troubles there. Call it New Hong Kong, or Diversityland.

@XFactor079 @EIshmael_ I wonder if Namibians own 51% of the companies that make her wardrobe and accessories.

Erm, no. #Angola itself is a net importer of refined fuel, and fuel in the country is heavily subsidised.
Fun fact: Some of this burden is held by national oil company Sonangol, which helps keep the subsidy bill down and hides the true fiscal cost of the subsidy scheme.
Joseph Kalimbwe@joseph_kalimbwe
In Angola, 100 litres of fuel costs 30 000 Kwanza. That means; a) 100 Litres of fuel would be 608 Kwacha in Zambia b) 100 litres of fuel would be 524 Rands in SA/Namibia c) 100 litres of fuel would be 32 USD in Zim We need to come together as SADC & trade with Angola !!
English

@marisalourenco @touristeagle1 No. Angola produces oil. Please check.
