The Pease Park troll cost about $300,000 to build, funded by private donors who wanted to create something magical for Austin. And now it sits burned down. A pile of ashes surrounded by caution tape. A giant wooden troll where kids laughed, families took photos, and people stopped for a moment to enjoy something whimsical in the middle of the city… gone. It’s hard not to feel like this is symbolic of something bigger. We build beautiful things in Austin, and somehow we keep finding them destroyed. Sometimes it really feels like we just can’t have nice things anymore. #atxcouncil

In Austin, you can walk your dogs on a quiet Sunday morning and get randomly shot. "I don't know why they would shoot me." Sean Fuentes keeps repeating it from his hospital bed. A car ran a stop sign in southeast Austin and three men opened fire. The first shot dropped him, and he felt the rest hitting the dirt next to his face as the shooters stayed and emptied the clip trying to execute him. Bear crawling home, he heard his late father's voice -- a Marine who served two tours in Vietnam: "It's go time." He crawled and walked a block and a half home bleeding. His wife saw the dogs running back alone, leashes dragging. Three teenagers stole a 9mm Glock from a shop on Ben White, took a stolen car, and spent the weekend firing into homes, vehicles, and strangers across Austin. 105 rounds across 21 incidents with four people shot. Sean’s twin sister is in the ICU waiting room with him, and wants justice: "They stayed there and shot him multiple times and then watched him. Like, you're watching somebody die.... I want to see them prosecuted to the full extent. They should be tried as adults."

For all of you sick individuals threatening me: understand this clearly — trespassing, harassment, and threats against my family will be taken seriously and handled legally. We value our privacy and safety, and we are well protected. My large pack of guardian dogs do not respond kindly to intruders, and neither will law enforcement. #FAFO

Layla’s Heart Ranch and Rescue
🆘SOS. SOS. 🆘 I feel helpless. I feel defeated. Rescue feels like a constant catch-22 sometimes. If you aren’t actively rescuing new dogs, people stop donating because they think nothing is happening. But when you are struggling just to meet the needs of the animals already in your care, how do you responsibly continue to say yes? How do you pull more dogs when you are worried about food, bills, flooding, vet care, and making sure the animals already here continue to receive the quality care they deserve? That is the part people don’t always see. Rescue is not just pulling a dog from a shelter. It is every single day after that. It is the feeding. The medications. The behavioral work. The cleaning. The vet visits. The sleepless nights. The worrying about what happens if donations stop coming in. And for us, these animals are not temporary. Many are sanctuary dogs. Last chance dogs. Dogs that truly have nowhere else to go. So while rescues all over the country are closing, we are sitting here terrified because closing is not really an option for us. What happens to the animals if we fail? I don’t have the answer right now. I just know we are trying our absolute hardest to keep going. If you can donate, share, or support us in any way, we would be beyond grateful. Donate: linktr.ee/laylasheartran…

@Dainallves That’s incorrect and it’s old. Texas law prohibits people from chaining dogs no matter what the weather.

This is a common occurrence in Austin because there’s no oversight into Travis County District Attorney José Garza. Garza reduces charges against minors and doesn’t request stiff penalties. State says they can’t intervene.

🚨 TEXAS WOMAN CAUGHT EATING HER OWN PET POODLE GIVEN ONLY A $20,000 BOND DISGUSTING. Harris County 208th District Court Judge Beverly Armstrong gave just a $20,000 bond to Ashley Quinn Pagel after prosecutors say she strangled, drowned, skinned, and ATE her pet poodle inside her Deer Park home. And this wasn’t her first violent case. Court records show she was released EARLY from felony probation on March 30, 2026. Less than ONE MONTH later, prosecutors allege she tortured and killed her dog while making violent threats involving her child. Prosecutors asked for a $200,000 bond. Judge Armstrong gave her $20,000. What makes this even more unbelievable is that Judge Armstrong’s own campaign website says she has “consistently set high bonds on violent cases” and keeps “public safety at the forefront.” Yet in THIS case, involving alleged animal torture, prior injury to a child, and renewed violent threats, she decided $20,000 was enough. If you want to respectfully voice your opinion to the court: 📞 Harris County 208th District Court (832) 927-3950 More details about this horrifying case are in the comments from well-known crime victim advocate @theshellbelle.

AUSTIN WOMAN's dogs maul a woman walking down a sidewalk. The victim didn't think she'd survive, and her arm is so badly torn she'll need plastic surgery. Panvrla White was charged in March with a felony, her Cane Corsos were euthanized, and she posted bond with orders not to possess any pets. Then things got worse. Travis County prosecutors quietly dismissed two of her unrelated felonies (burglary and criminal mischief) through pre-trial diversion. Days later, White started threatening shelter staff, got banned from the property, and kept coming back. When officers arrested her last month, they found meth tucked in her bra. She bonded out again. A week later, she tracked down a witness from the dog case at an HEB and punched him in the face and allegedly threw a rock went through his window. Then she called a veteran's crisis line and said she had an AK-47 and was going to kill shelter staff and the officers who took her dogs. She named an animal services investigator and said, "by the end of the day there will be no more of you." White has 32 cases in Travis County, including a felony for forging docs to sell a dead lady's house, plus convictions for robbery/theft and credit card abuse. A harassment case is still pending from last year, when her OTHER dog, a Spanish Mastiff, attacked a neighbor she then spent weeks threatening.

@AustinJustice Same woman had another Mastiff that walked into a homeless camp and snapped a Pitbull’s neck (killing her instantly) in about 2 seconds. The two that were euthanized were the nicer dogs.
