@paolo_scales London global time zone is superior. Miami , I agree on founder energy , but the bad stigma still hits there, I do love Miami though. New York, agreed unmatched Dubai yes I agree , but won’t be taken seriously on the big stage.

OpenAI / Anthropic scaling up in London is wonderful for the UK. But we should make notice periods and non-competes above 60 days invalid and illegal. This will increase competitiveness for UK-based talent, increase pay & taxes and give UK startups better access to talent.

@DanielSmidstrup It’s already happening but I think in the next 8-12 months , given the current rate of innovation , we may see it will handle completely end to end

@DrellLabs This is true , but I think if all of the major ai companies come and compete it will drive the prices up for talent, next 12-14 months will be interesting

@Mossiah Even if they don’t adjust the salaries down when negotiating, they still benefit from “cheap labour” in the sense they will get a much better candidate pool at that price than one would get at SF, because the rest of industry pays less.

@tommy5dollar Interesting! I do think eventually we’ll hit equilibrium through competition for talent. If all the ai labs are competing it’ll raise the overall base of the market

@Mossiah My understanding is Anthropic come up with a global pay range for a role and they then convert it to the local currency for each country they're listing in. But when they actually make offers for they role they base them on local markets (-50% for London).

Anthropic is hiring for 6 roles in London and is willing to pay up to £630k A YEAR for each. The AI lab is expanding its London presence and has secured a new office for 800 people. As part of this expansion it has over 40 open roles available in London. Six of these are for different research engineers (e.g. reinforcement learning, scaling etc..) with the salaries reaching up to £630k! This excludes stock options. BONKERS OpenAI, Anthropic, Ineffable Intelligence, Google DeepMind, Recursive... the war for AI talent is HEATING up in London. I wouldn't be surprised if salaries hit over £1m soon.

@_sanjay3 @trikcode Heavy prompt testing and comparing answers and capabilities, the thing is you can kind of give the open source models similar capabilities anyway too

@AskYoshik There’s a certain feel about open source which people don’t like , the capability is there. If fine tuned slightly , you’re probably better off with the open source option in 99% of cases for businesses. The price alone is more compelling

The AI pricing war is about to get very ugly for closed-source AI companies. DeepSeek V4 Pro: $0.87 Grok 4.3: $2.50 GLM 1.5: $3.08 Qwen 3.7 Max: $7.50 Opus 4.7: $25 GPT-5.5: $30 And people still think these margins survive long term? Open source models are getting intelligent, cheaper, faster, and enterprises care way more about cost than benchmarks. This is exactly why I keep saying the AI math feels weird. The tech is real. The current economics around it? not so sure.
Yoshik@AskYoshik

People are acting like questioning AI economics means denying AI itself. Some of the biggest financial analysts and investors in the world are already debating this openly: Michael Burry comparing it to dot-com, Jeremy Grantham warning about bubble dynamics, WSJ questioning whether current AI infra spending will ever justify returns. Even during the internet boom, the technology was real. The bubble was also real. Both can exist together.

stumbled onto something genuinely impressive today anam.ai - real-time interactive AI avatars with 180ms latency let me break down why I think this is one of the more underrated AI products right now 👇 most AI agents are either a chat box or a robotic voice. anam gives them a face. photorealistic. micro-expressions. no looping, no mouth-dubbing nonsense. the numbers are hard to ignore: → +44% engagement when your agent has a face vs text/voice only → CARA-3 (their latest model) is #1 across ALL avatar benchmarks in 2025 → 33% faster than the next-best competitor → 180ms avg response time, literally faster than a blink → 70+ languages with native voices → plug in your own LLM, your own voice, your own avatar image use cases they're already disrupting: customer support, sales, medical services, language tutoring, skill training and it's actually developer-friendly. clean SDK, LiveKit + Pipecat integrations, no-code option if you don't want to touch the API if you're building AI products or advising companies on AI strategy, this is one to watch
