.@SenSchumer: "Iran still has its nuclear stockpile. Its nuclear ambitions are still unchecked, if not accelerated…The nations at the world are furious at Trump: the Asians, the Europeans, even the Middle Eastern allies."

Jeffries calls for Mike Johnson to immediately reconvene the House to take up a war powers resolution

In the best case scenario, Trump struck a deal to reopen a Strait that was open before the pointless war he started, with the IRGC demonstrating its control over the Strait and potentially extracting fees plus sanctions relief. Thousands of innocents - including hundreds of children - dead in Lebanon and Iran for no reason. U.S. troops killed and wounded. U.S. embassies and bases in the Middle East badly damaged. U.S. standing in the world obliterated. U.S. munitions badly depleted. Hundreds of billions spent. Prices up everywhere. More global economic fallout to come. Putin strengthened and enriched. Just a catastrophic situation even in the best of circumstances. A profoundly shameful episode in American history no matter what happens next.

It’s incredible how absent Democratic Party leadership is in the face of Trump blowing up the entire fucking world.

BREAKING: Iran closes all diplomatic and indirect channels of communication with the U.S., suspending the exchange of messages, following Trump’s threat to kill Iran's "whole civilization." - Reuters

At the risk of ruining my week, I *think* what Sarah's pointing out is the absurdity of the claim that any one internet figure (regardless of their reach) is as influential and critical to Democrats' fortunes as some on here were seriously suggesting last week.

Bound and tortured Palestinian hostages Israel's National Security Minister Ben Gvir: “Do you see them? This is how they are now, but one thing remains to be done and that is to execute them” This is what the US, UK and Europe support:

An NBC News survey found Newsom was even less popular than Trump, with Trump underwater by 12 points and Newsom by 18. Conversely, AOC polled ahead of Trump, Newsom and the Democratic Party itself. sosavstate.com/p/gavin-newsom…

How come Progressives and other Leftists cannot run under their own banner? They have to try to hijack the Democratic Party while also undermining it.

Look, the dumbest thing about all this is that I didn’t and don’t care about Piker. Piker never comes up in focus groups with voters as someone they’re following—the way a Rogan or Tucker or Candance does. I don’t think he’s singularly making an impact on politics in any way commensurate with the attention he’s getting. But I care about Tim. I agreed with @Timodc’s original point that using Piker as a litmus test is dumb. Calling up Jon Ossoff to ask what he thinks about Piker is dumb. It is an unnecessary distraction. But I felt like Tim’s discussion of Piker was too dismissive of some of Pikers more toxic positions. And that was the part I wanted to react to. There’s nothing I can do about the fact that the internet distortion field has overtaken the whole thing. And that people are debating my views in a way that is totally divorced from my actual, very-well documented views. That’s just part of what happens when doing this work. The only thing I can do is keep saying what I actually believe. And what I hear voters saying they believe. But politicians can reach voters who are angry about the Iran war and even about America’s relationship to Israel without going on the stream of a guy who said America deserved 9/11. But, it’s also no doubt true that he’s being elevated by the whole conversation and the right answer to questions about him should probably be “Piker, who?” Because that’s what most voters would say if you asked them.

Over the last eight months, I've sadly had to deal with a certain kind of person. They're in DC, they think they're political geniuses, and they view us up in Maine as a malleable mass to be manipulated, messaged to, and tricked. And their time is over.

It sucks that we could lose the senate because DC pundits and soft, California, millionaire pod bros saw a scruffy beard and a flannel shirt and lost their minds

By 2027-28 anti-elite populist politics at the presidential level will be 12 years old. Has it delivered for voters? Are people happier? At some point people might start looking for something else.
