What if I told you one of the best hitters our state has ever seen swings with his fingers interlocked, as if he was golfing? Baseball makes no sense and also the most sense.

Few HR Derby Observations: • Saw a guy with a “hitch” in his hand movement hitting absolute tanks. • Saw another guy swinging the bat with his pointer finger on the bat like he was swinging a golf club. • The winner’s back foot started open, actually way open, not square.

When I let him know we couldn’t keep him, he fully understood. Praised him for giving it a shot, let him know he was just up against it because all these other kids have been playing since they were 6. Hard to overcome an 8-year head start. Gave him resources on what he could work on, let him know he could immediately join track the next day and that they’d find a spot for him to thrive. He was great! Just went home to a very different experience.

I’ve had a few over the years. A parent of a freshman once sent me a very lengthy email after tryouts telling me that if her son ends his own life someday, it will be because I cut him from the baseball team (he’d never picked up a baseball a day in his life prior to this).

Who thinks they had the single worst parent complaint ever imaginable? Many years ago, a guy called the FBI on my basketball staff, forged emails pretending to be coaches, and complained when the entire program fresh-varsity, including his son, was given (by a donor) incredible spirit packs valued at just under $35,000 Let’s have fun with this.

The three baseball players here combined to steal 146 bags, hit 61 HR, and collect 339 RBI while winning 102 games over 5 years. The rest of the people in this pic had a front row seat in the dugout for all of it. Love these guys! Go Saxons! Go Berries!

Why doesn’t someone just grab an old Stalker Pro from 1995 and go sit behind home plate at an MLB game and see what numbers it spits out? Couldn’t we put this whole velocity argument to bed?

Every time I watch MLB hitters take BP, I see the exact opposite of this. Hitters still very much work the middle, the gaps, etc. I honestly don’t see much difference between the BP of the early 2000s and the BP of today.

Talked to Manny Ramirez today about taking batting practice. He said today’s BP has become pull-side homers and exit velo. He and David Ortiz worked gap-to-gap. Middle of the field first. The home runs showed up on their own. That isn’t an accident. ⚾️ Habits are important!

@Coach_KGraber We use “free” and “inside” for the same verbal calls. Works well. If you can combine that with the R picking the C’s signs and knowing when off-speed is coming, it’s a pretty lethal combination.

If MIF holding R at 2B vacates and P hasn't delivered, my simple verbal to the R is "clear." This frees the R to gain ground laterally and continue on through leg lift, easiest bag ever. If MIF re-engages, my simple verbal is "back 2", and the runner simply shuffles back to 15'.

“in an attempt to put out, or drive back a runner” So there really shouldn’t even be much umpire discretion required. Was the runner going when the pitcher lifted his non-pivot foot? Yes? Then even if the runner stops at that point, by rule, it isn’t a balk. Umpires will umpire though 😂

Doing a deep-dive on holding runners and pickoffs at the high school level. We were blessed having a one-of-a-kind player being the plate for the last four years that made us not really have to think about it much 😂 So, send me all your resources, tags, etc.
