This is a fascinating window into the philosophy of (northern) Nigerian politicians and a classical demonstration of Ekeh's "two publics" framework. Where the morality Pantami himself mentions is in reference to the veracity of the govt jobs facilitated and not the morality of influencing public jobs. By his own clear admission, it's immoral to lie but not immoral to corner government jobs for your people. Most Nigerians would agree with him and this is what's exactly wrong with governance in our country.

“The jobs we created are not merely about quantity, but about quality, in such a way that the quality of one person I provided with an employment opportunity is greater than that of 50 employees in other places.” — @ProfIsaPantami #GombeApcPrimaries #TrustTv

I really enjoyed this conversation with @peaceitimi For 2 hours, we riffed on everything, including; 1. My early beginnings 2. EP>VP 3. 3 inflection points 4. Partnership lessons learned in the school of hard knocks 😊 5. “Paying school fees.” 6. Backing category leaders consistently for 10 years + 7. How good & bad culture scales 8. Staying in the game 9. A glimpse into my anti-portfolio 10. Family …and so much more. The measure of a great host is that I was recovering from a bad flu, but you wouldn't tell. 👏

Let me start to answer this in the way I think is possible. First, why do we have the wrong people in power? It is because we have a major problem with education and awareness. A lack of objective secondary and public data sources also enables them to operate in the shadows with impunity. This problem can be solved and is already being solved. As I mentioned in the last part of my tweet, education is not taken seriously. One reason it is not is that most builders don't build for mission but largely for profit. Not all tech has to be built for profit; it can also be built with a mission in mind. We have seen recently all that one man on a mission to fix education in Eastern Nigeria can achieve. What if this is an ongoing process powered by open-sourced technology? Proper education does many things; it empowers people to do more for themselves and changes society wholesale. The second part is the process and corruption problem. The solution to this is not immediate, but when more educated and more aware people are involved, accountability increases. Data sources will also improve. Tech can also create more radical and more subversive solutions that can attack the issue of corruption in the short term, like the name and same exercise going on in education, but I doubt it will fix the root cause of the problems. Someone like @ifechukwuogb is building in both healthcare and education at the very bottom to fix data and processes. His achievements in a very short time have made me realize that much more is possible. I can't wait for him to talk more about what he has achieved running a not-for-profit grassroots initiative.
Johnmark Obiefuna@jayhemz

I'm not sure whether this is satire but asking genuinely: how do you build a startup to fix governance or quell corruption? My enlightened followers, please help me.

“I want to thank you for this award. I would have accepted it, but as I said during my inauguration in 2023, I will not accept any award, chieftaincy title, or honour until I finish serving the people of Abia State. I’m not rejecting the award, you can keep it for now. After I’m done serving the people of Abia State, if you still believe I’m worthy of it, then you can present it to me.” — Governor Alex Otti responds to a students’ union planning to honour him with an award.

Alex Otti just confirmed what they tried to bury. Peter Obi left MONEY. Not debt. MONEY. Governors inherit debt. Anambra inherited BILLIONS. This is what leadership looks like. Share this video 📍

Earlier today at about 2:31pm along Uturu Road near Abia State University (ABSU), I experienced one of the most traumatizing moments of my life. I boarded a mini bus to get an item back to my lodge when some policemen without name tags stopped our vehicle at a checkpoint. They ordered me to step down, which I peacefully did. Immediately, they collected another passenger’s phone and began interrogating him aggressively about what he does for a living. Moments later, one of them turned to me and asked why I was using 3 phones. I calmly explained to them that I am a student and that the phones were bought with my hard-earned money. Instead of listening, they dragged me, my brother, and another passenger into a nearby bush and started harassing us for absolutely no reason. Before we knew what was happening, more officers joined them and they began beating us mercilessly like criminals, even though we were just students who came to ABSU to study and build our future. My brother and I sustained serious injuries during the assault. My ear is currently blocked, I can barely hear properly, and it has been bleeding because of the torture we faced in the hands of these officers...my phone screen also got broken. The most painful part was the constant threats they made. They said they could shoot us and nothing would happen. They also said they could make sure we never graduate from school. Imagine hearing such terrifying words from the same people meant to protect citizens. My only “crime” was owning 3 phones. ABSU students are no longer feeling safe. Police harassment, intimidation, and extortion around Uturu are becoming unbearable. Students are living in fear every day. We came here for education, not to be brutalized and treated like criminals for no reason💔. @PoliceNG @TunjiDisu1 @PoliceNG_CRU @dammiedammie35 @ChuksEricE @HarrisonBbi18 @MaureenChinaka @alexottiofr @winexviv @aleeygiwa @YomiShogunle

Dele Farotimi wrote: "As a Yoruba man. I really envy Peter Obi. And would be waiting patiently for the day when we will have a Governor of South west extraction that would replicate what he did in Anambra state. I can't wait to have a Governor of a south Western state who like PETER OBI will rule a state for 8yrs; 1. He didn't borrow a Kobo. 2. He didn't use bulletproof car. 3. He never lived outside the state till end. 4. He met a debt of N36billion. 5. He met Onitsha as a terror zone. 6. He met his state at 27 in WAEC and NECO. 7. He met a kitchen called Govt House. 8. He met no Primary Healthcare. 9. He met no General Hospital in 14-LGs. 10. He met poor Pri. and Sec. school structures. Before leaving; 1. Anambra wasn't owing any contractor or worker. 2. He cleared the inherited ₦36billion debt. 3. He brought in SMEs to the traders of the state. 4. He built the today's Govt House. 5. He built 18-Gen Hospitals and a state Specialist. 6. He built 178-Primary Health centres. 7. He fought and won the state against hoodlums. 8. He pushed the state 1st in 3yrs consecutively in WAEC and NECO. 9. He built brewery that employed over 3000 direct and indirect job seekers. 10. He even had to save ₦36billion and $150million for his successors to use and run administrations. 11. He drove 406 and Innoson throughout. 12. He didn't acquire any property anywhere while in office. 13. He never awarded any contract to family members. 14. His wife hadn't office, and allowed to mess with the state. She had her enterprises in UK. 15. Obasanjo had to come to Onitsha and spent 1-week bcos of peaceful environment. 16. He invited anti-graft to come and audit his administration, before handing over. 17. He refused to accept a piece of land, and gratuity and pension. 18. He never went close to State Govt House after handing over. 19. He never struggle to frustrate his successors policies. 20. Till today, he kept gifting multi-millions to Schools, Healthcare development, and entrepreneurship developments. 21. He even work as Chairman of SEC at the national stage without pay If your definition of leadership is right you won't be against Peter Obi. Only a selfish mind would see all these and still question it. Peter Obi - a man that defiles Nigeria's version of leadership. - Dele Farotimi

I just finished a long call from the Abia State Government team regarding the current state of Abia State University. Investigations will commence immediately. Their word is that if after the investigation and it requires them to fire 90% of the staff to sanitize the system, they will do it. We will not tolerate extortion or students molestations in our universities anymore. We will expose them, show their faces and jail them. Extortions, molestations and sorting is the major reason why we have low quality graduates in our universities. It must stop!
