An unfortunate meta-point is that smart, capable people seem to get elected to office only in the eleventh hour to clean up their predecessors’ messes. Mahan is the best candidate we have, and I think he would make a great governor. But his task will mostly be cleaning up Newsom’s mess. California has hundreds of billions of dollars in unfunded liabilities — and cutting those back will be very, very unpopular. Imagine what a skilled public servant could do if their job wasn’t mostly fixing prior catastrophes — which by the way they even tend to get blamed for, though the cause was many years prior.

Sorry Tom, I'm calling BS. I've never taken a dime from corporate PACs, I've never been for sale to special interests, and I've spent my whole campaign talking about how we can build new housing and get costs down. The difference between you and I is that I've actually done the work to help Californians keep their homes during the foreclosure crisis, and I don't personally own many millions of dollars of real estate.
