@Paulineeeena @tineyco Hello! I’m a primary teacher and keeping coming back to thinking about starting as a childminder with Tiny. Can I ask you about it please?

@Wigdortz @tineyco @TeachFirst One week back at work part time teaching after my maternity leave @teachfirst ambassador and already wishing I had risked opening up my home and becoming a childminder! It’s terrible the limited options for good quality childcare for my son and my friend’s babies

Back to school tomorrow after maternity leave to a new job because my previous school couldn’t/wouldn’t have me back part time. Very strange feeling to not be going back to somewhere you loved teaching! @PregnantScrewed

Those of you who teach mixed age maths (2 year groups), what approach do you take? Teach the same block/unit but do two inputs? Extend the older children in the tasks set? Genuinely interested. Must be a crazy amount of coverage going on in a lesson!

@WhiteRoseMaths I’m new to mixed year groups with a 1/2 class in Sept. Am I right in understanding that your mixed age planning is just the year 1 and 2 scheme put alongside each other and I have to some how plan and teach two different lessons in each session with no TA?!

@ModernCassie @ClareSealy Yep we’ve got mixed year 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 classes and I lead maths. Happy to chat through how we plan and make it work currently- disclaimer it’s not perfect!

Any very small primary school help with how to plan maths?
NC@frankbutcher76

@ClareSealy Hi Clare. I wonder if you know of any very small schools (whole KS2 = 1 class) case studies where I could read about how they plan for maths? Or even chat to someone who has experience of this? Thought you might be the person to ask. Thank you.

Interview went well yday but I haven’t been contacted yet as they are waiting for my 2nd reference so I will attend my 1st choice interview today. I don’t know if I was successful in yesterday’s so I have to go to today’s. Then what if I’m offered both 🤷‍♀️. 🤞offered 1 maybe!

I have 3 job interviews this week. My first choice is on Wednesday. If I get a job offer tomorrow can I ask to think about it and get back to them on Wednesday evening? @RachelOrr you may be able to help with this!

@MrHtheteacher I’m interviewing this week. If I get offered a job tomorrow can I ask for time to think as I have another interview the day after I have spent a lot of time preparing for and after the moment I would prefer that job. Don’t want to be left with no job!

1. After shortlisting many applicants down to a small group, I'm left with some reflections. I hope they're useful (thread) 1. Personalise your application to the school. We need to know that you know us and that you've taken the time to find out or visit

No one came to check on me today or ask if I was ok. I haven’t been told if I have to do it again tomorrow. Friday (last day before maternity leave) can’t come soon enough!

I’m 37 weeks pregnant tomorrow and have been told to cover a Year 4 class. Their teacher is off with Covid. 2 kids tested positive over the weekend and their singing teacher from last Thursday tested positive over the weekend. I don’t want to cover them, but what can I do?

@vouzidhmesloub I haven’t said anything I wouldn’t want my SLT to hear. I doubt they’d find me on here.

@LeePeckover I just got a whats app message saying our office manager has tried to get cover, but couldn’t so I have to cover. I don’t belong to a union anymore as I found past union reps useless and ineffective.

@Mrs_Wilson_1989 This is a rare instance where I’d say you need to be refusing to do it. Should be a risk assessment. Have SLT been reasonable? And if all else fails, are you in a union? They are there to run things like this by, doesn’t mean they always need to step in, but could advise.

@teacherthunks I have said today that I don’t feel comfortable going in there and they tried to find another option. I don’t know why the head, or assistant head can’t cover, or there would be TAs willing to cover to save me going in.

@Mrs_Wilson_1989 Teachers can be asked to do emergency cover. It's not an emergency if it's in the afternoon of the day of, let alone the day before. They need to try to get someone else in first. I would politely say that you don't feel comfortable going in there firstly.
