I am deeply saddened by yesterday morning's tragic crash involving a school bus and a train in Mukono, coming just days after the fatal road accident at Bobi along the Kampala–Gulu Highway. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured a speedy recovery. Reckless driving, speeding and disregard for traffic rules continue to cost innocent lives. We must strengthen enforcement and ensure that dangerous driving attracts firm consequences to deter behaviour that puts lives at risk. These repeated tragedies demand urgent action. I have directed the Ministry to work with the @RailwaysUganda @PoliceUg and all relevant agencies to undertake a nationwide safety audit of railway crossings and high-risk roads, review school transport safety standards, strengthen enforcement, improve signage and warning systems, and intensify road safety awareness campaigns.

Today, I have reinspected the Mityana–Mubende Road to assess progress following my previous visit, during which I issued firm directives to accelerate works and address outstanding concerns. Together with the @MoWT_Uganda's technical team and the contractor, we reviewed construction quality, compliance with contract specifications, and progress against the agreed timelines. This road is a critical transport corridor linking Kampala to western Uganda, and we remain committed to ensuring it is completed to the required standards, on schedule, and delivers value for money to the people of Uganda.
