On March 28, 2025, a group called the Satanic Grotto attempted to hold a Black Mass at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka, Kansas. A Black Mass is a deliberate parody and desecration of the Catholic Mass, including the denouncing of Jesus Christ and the desecration of the Eucharist. Governor Laura Kelly banned the ceremony from inside the Capitol after over 95,000 Christians signed a petition. The group defied the order and attempted to hold it inside anyway. Their leader was tackled by police and arrested. Four people were arrested in total. Hundreds of Christians showed up to counter-protest. Catholics chanted “Christ is King.” The Archbishop of Kansas City led a Eucharistic Holy Hour directly across the street from the Capitol. Among the counter-protesters was this man, dressed in tactical gear and full Crusader attire, kneeling silently in prayer outside the event. No weapons. No aggression. Just a man on his knees before God while the world descended into chaos around him.
