As a Delhi brought up Maharashtrian, who got a metro station near his home in 2001, I sometimes pity these gullible Punekars, ruined by chindi-chor politicians successfully selling low expectations.

@Mukjo @sarikaphatak Exactly, gullible Punekars with low expectations think that metro and airport are silos. They'd rather live with bad infra, and suffer an Airport shuttle to even catch a cab, but not concede a point. The same infighting tendency!

@Mukjo @sarikaphatak The pie isn't limited. No body took away from Pune budget to build Delhi infra. In fact, the center approved Pune airport budget in 2002👇, not built because of Pune politicians infighting. Delhi politicians are more corrupt, but they don't obstruct work. x.com/i/status/20062…
Nikhilesh Ghushe@nghushe

@Cosmodoctor_ @aparanjape The Chakan plan was first made in 1996, and approved in 2002 by the center under Vajpayee. The Puneri sansthanik elites shot it down.

@sarikaphatak @nghushe How different are delhi politicians compared to rest of India? Infra in rest of India took a backseat, so that India's capital would develop, looks only delhi infra has developed. Yes Pune is safe and Delhi hehehehe

@nghushe Sure. Politicians have neglected #Pune up until now. Really hoping that changes. But women can safely use whatever infra we have any time of the day unlike Delhi no? That's a win on the society of Pune :) thank you for your concern :)

I could never imagine that Metro travel will be possible as a default mode of transportation in #Pune. I know I am a late adopter but for an original Mumbaikar who has suffered the local travel, this is heaven!! @metrorailpune

The ⁦@CMDMSEDCL⁩ has to come lower. The difference between them and the next highest tariff is about 25%. Are we all paying for their inefficiency or freebies?

On the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa, we recorded ₹170.7 crore in sales, up 38% YoY—despite elevated gold prices. Proud to share that we’ve also crossed ₹10,000 crore in annual revenue—a defining milestone in our journey. Grateful for the trust of our customers. #GudiPadwa

@RajeevRC_X Amazing my late grandfather Gp Capt Kashinath Joshi, flew the Dakotas too. He was a part of the RAF and later the IAF post 1947. Just your post brought back his memories and goosebumps. Thank u for your service. 🫡 Jai Hind

Rajeev Chandrasekhar 🇮🇳
Many people ask me about the story of Parashurama. Here it is. My father, Air Commodore MK Chandrasekhar was a proud air warrior who dedicated his life to protecting our skies. He was a master of the iconic Douglas DC-3 Dakota, an aircraft deeply tied to our nation’s history and my childhood 🇮🇳 To honour his legacy and our aviation history, I spent 5 years on a mission to rescue and restore a neglected Dakota from Ireland for the @IAF_MCC. ✈️ Despite years of setbacks, the journey was worth it the moment I saw my father, then 80+, in that Dakota once again. Today, it stands proudly in #IAF colours as part of our vintage fleet, bearing the tail number VP-905. It is named #Parashurama, after the eternal warrior sage and sixth avatar of Vishnu. The story of Parashurama is a powerful reminder that if there is a will and decisive leadership, anything is possible. Patriotism is not just about words. It is about honouring the Indians who protected our country and preserving the military traditions that shaped those brave men. To every air warrior who flew the Dakota - my salute and respect for your service. 🇮🇳 🫡 #Rajeev4VikasitaKeralam #Rajeev4VikasitaNemom

@aparanjape @OfficialPMRDA This is the max they can do. I think we are fools to expect things happening in time. It's been almost 10 years of BJP rule in Pune and we seem to be on a downward spiral.

@aparanjape @nitinwelde Agreed but do we have the political will to start and execute in time? Else this region will be known as a case study of disaster development

Nitin - have written about this many times. Will repeat :) Bottomline, Navi Mumbai will be a stop gap - not just for Pune but for Mumbai too. Look at the number of runways... Only 2 at NMIA and 1 at BOM. DEL has 4. The new Jewar Airport in Greater Noida will have 4 (expandable to 6). So NCR has 8-10. Mumbai has 3. Mumbai will need a 3rd airport in less than 10 years. Looking at all the IAF slot constraints at PNQ (valid constraints - it is IAF's airport! And national security is critical) Pune effectively has 0.5 runway. Mumbai + Pune will likely be the biggest metro region in the world in the next 10 years (bigger than Tokyo) in terms of population. 3.5 runways will NOT be enough! To summarise - We NEED Purandar as soon as possible - and also Palghar (3rd airport for Mumbai) We don't have land to build 4/6 runway airports here, like in NCR... Hence multiple 2 runway airports...with rapid rail connectivity between these airports.

- As per reports coming in about MH budget there is no mention of new #pune airport. - Here is a possible solution and probably a different/ unpopular thought process. - With Navi Mumbai airport coming up and the road travel between Pune and NMIA likely to reduce ,hence we may want to reconsider the new airport requirements. We may reach an informed decision of continuing with the present day airport. - The new terminal seemed impossible a few years ago but now has given enough access to better pax services and comfort. So there are some solutions which are not too obvious but achievable. - Tne present day airport has two major challenges for civil aviation a) It has less parking space on Civil Tarmac. b) There is an exclusive “ Military Block “ for 2:30 hours each day. This restricts the pax traffic from 0900-1130 ( winter timing ) - The way to overcome these challenges a) Request for some more space adjacent to the present terminal. b) Look at possible ways to have a smaller GA terminal on other side of present day civil terminal. This can be done. Jamnagar had some stop gap time being arrangement few months ago. Hindon has commenced civil operations. c) Look at more efficient ways to reduce the exclusive military slot. This will help to plan more flights. - A probable vague thought is to try to think how can the military flying in Pune be reduced/ shifted. There are instances where the use of air power and its effective place of deployment has changed in last few decades. Plus the entire concept of “ Theatre “ will refine some concepts. How and where the air bases will be is a matter of continuous assessment and they do change. It just needs some study and we may still reach a conclusion that it is “ not possible “ However there is also a possibility that we may say “ thoda bahut adjust karne se ho jayega “ PS: I say this with all my emotions and my unconditional love for Indian Air Force. @aparanjape @sudhirmehtapune @mohol_murlidhar
