The Greek Cypriots left themselves out in the cold when they shot down the Annan Plan and the Cyprus issue became unresolvable after it was shelved during their EU accession process. Now they are trying to present the Cyprus issue as an EU problem. If it was an EU problem it would and should have been addressed in 2004/2005. The EU accepted Cyprus as a divided island and until Greek Cypriots get off their maximalist high horse and reach a deal with their Turkish Cypriot neighbors, a divided island it will remain.
Straturka@straturka

Greek Cypriot writer @TheanoKalavana offered striking insights in her article titled “The Truth Is, Cyprus Is Left Out in the Cold.” “Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is now the leader of a country that holds talks simultaneously with Moscow, Washington, Brussels, Kyiv, and Arab capitals,” the Greek Cypriot writer said, adding, “Turkey is no longer just an ally of the West. It has become an autonomous regional power that negotiates from a position of strength with everyone.”

@Mustafa33339986 @YusufErim34 Anatolia in that period (before 610 CE) was not so different from India of modern day. It was not a beacon of what would become a modern civilization but a fractured premodern society plagued by conflict, superstition and multitude of blood-cult religious sects.

@YusufErim34 We forget we're dealing with a society steeped in supremacism and racism: one that often sees itself as the architect of civilization, claims to be the "new chosen people", regards its church as holding primacy (first among equals) and views its culture as superior to others.

Netanyahu tries to realize Jews' 3000-years old dream but call Turkish Interior Minister's (@mustafaciftcitr) dream of being the governor of Al Quds (Jerusalem) as a threat to Israel's security. Was dreaming promised to only Jews 3000 years ago?

In Athens, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias revealed more than a doctrine—he exposed a mindset. A strategy built on Israel-backed confidence, French arms, and maximalist maritime claims… but detached from economic reality, industrial capacity, and the hard truth of war: sustainability. Deterrence against Türkiye is a miscalculation. Because for Türkiye, the Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean, TRNC and the Blue Homeland are not negotiable arenas—they are existential domains. Any fait accompli here moves beyond deterrence into self-defense. And that changes everything. Greece is once again being drawn into dependency, overreach, and great power competition—mistaking temporary technological advantage for lasting strategic superiority. History is clear. Power is not what you declare, but what you can sustain. Türkiye does not accept impositions in its vital sovereignty areas. It does not allow faits accomplis. And when necessary—it responds on the ground. Full analysis is in my latest Substack article. The problem is not that Turkey stands outside Europe. The problem is that Ankara learned to live inside Europe’s rooms while cutting holes in its walls. Cyprus was not an exception. The Aegean is not a quarrel. Migration is not a bargaining chip. Hamas, Libya, Syria, Russian energy and the Black Sea are not separate files. They are one perimeter. Turkey does not seek a place in Europe. It seeks leverage over Europe. Europe does not need another seminar on Turkish identity. It needs the courage to call the pattern by its name.

This is @ragipsoylu, Turkey Bureau Chief of @middleeasteye, mouthpiece of authoritarian Turkey, member of its propaganda machine - who has blocked me because he cannot handle constructive criticism - a bot and a shill pretending to be an unbiased journalist. Turkey, Ragip Soylou, may be part of Europe but an "integral" part of Europe it has never been. You see Ragip Soylou, an integral part of any alliance aligns its goals with the alliance's objectives, something that Turkey has never done. Not since WWI, not in WWII, not any time since. Instead, it has been bullying and threatening Europe to for instance flood it with illegal immigrants and jihadists. Instead it invaded and occupied Cyprus, a European country. Instead it is threatening Greece, also a European country, with a casus belli. Turkey, Ragip Soylou, is nothing less but a significant threat to Europe. And THAT is a fact! | #Turkey

Türkiye, a guarantor power for the island of Cyprus, lawfully intervened to prevent the Greek Cypriot community of the island from ethnically cleansing the Turkish Cypriot community of the island during a Greece-backed coup attempt. Many insincere narrative spinning Greek Cypriots and Greeks always fail to mention their actions that resulted in Türkiye having to launch the Cyprus Peace Operation. If the operation wasn’t launched, there probably wouldn’t be any Turkish Cypriots left on the island and if by chance a couple survived they would be called Cypriot Muslims most likely. Unfortunately the far-right mindset and Enosis ideology that led to the 1963 Bloody Christmas Massacre and the ethnic cleansing events of 1974 still remain today. Greek Cypriots have had multiple chances to unify the island throughout the half century of its division. But their maximalist demands, rejection of the UN’s Annan plan and failure to even view Turkish Cypriots as equal owners of the island have stymied all past diplomatic efforts. Unfortunately their EU membership has compounded the problem. While they are basically subsidized - Turkish Cypriots live under embargo and the EU expects healthy negotiations while there is such great inequality. The presence of Turkish troops on the island are the only security guarantee Turkish Cypriots have.
NikosChristodoulides@Christodulides

Dear Charles, since you are talking about double standards, let me remind you that Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, and still occupies European territory, 🇨🇾🇪🇺

The Erdogan gov't is now in a state of panic after a intelligence agency MIT's siege operation at Incirlik Air Base, where US troops are stationed, backfired. The containment and damage control is in place with police finally authorized to respond to groups attempting to breach security perimeters. Day-long planned demonstrations in front of the base were abruptly cancelled by the main organizer IHH just before the arrival of US Secretary Antony Blinken for talks.

Are you lying through your teeth @HelenaMaleno? How could you ever claim that "they [the illegal immigrants] spent more than 15 hours asking for help"? Are you aware that when the Greek coast guard approached the vessel and offered help, they refused insisting to continue their voyage? Isn't it valid to question your role, and that of the NGO that you represent, with the immigrant smuggling networks? Are you by any chance and by your stance promoting illegal immigration? And if so, aren't you also guilty for the demise of them poor souls? | @walkingborders @HCoastGuard

Jamie Dimon is one of the world's most respected business leaders. Politically he is a centrist. He is pro-business and pro-free enterprise, but also supportive of well-designed social programs and rational tax policies that can help the less fortunate. He is extremely smart, thoughtful, and pragmatic, and he knows how to bring opposing parties together. He is highly respected by the Right, the Left, and the Center. Jamie is beloved by his 240,000+ employees, highly respected by our military as well as by the global political and business leaders that matter. He has superbly managed @jpmorgan through every crisis, and has built the world's best, large, global financial institution working for clients from startups and mom and pops, to global institutions and countries. Our country is at risk with $32T of debt with no end to massive deficits in sight, heading into a recession at a time of great political uncertainty. We need an exemplary business, financial, and global leader to manage through what is likely to be a critically important decade for our country in determining our destiny. Jamie Dimon is that leader. Jamie is of exemplary and unimpeachable character. He is a no bullshit, straight-talking, charismatic leader with an enormous grasp of the world's issues and how to address them. He is a great communicator that makes everyone who hears his words feel respected and inspired. He has enormous energy, vigor, and drive. He is a wonderful father, friend, husband, and son. In sum, he is the kind of person our country deserves as our next leader. And clearly he is thinking about running: finance.yahoo.com/news/dimon-hin… I can't imagine a better time for him to do so. @POTUS is extremely weak and in cognitive decline. 70% of Democrats don't want him to run. Biden's weakness sets up a large opening for a qualified outsider to run as a Democrat. Jamie can beat Biden in the primary and @realDonaldTrump in the general election, but he needs to start now and build name recognition among the broad electorate. He will easily raise billions of dollars from Democrats and Republicans to fund his campaign, and he knows how to build support. Each year, Jamie gets on a bus and travels around the country meeting with tellers, branch managers, and other employees to spread the culture and inspire the JPM team; great preparation for a presidential run. He will also be incredible on the debate stage. And there is nothing more for him to achieve at JPM. He has already been crowned the world's best banker. JPM stock will go up even more when he becomes POTUS as he can do more for the bank and our economy as President than he can as Chairman and CEO of JPM. The bank will be in great shape since he has built a deep succession bench that is more than ready to step up. There is only one better job for Jamie than CEO of JPM and that's POTUS. Jamie just needs a push from people he respects and from the broader electorate. If you agree that he should be our next POTUS, give him a call, send him an email or go see him, and like and retweet this tweet. This will be one of the most important elections in our country's history. Jamie is more likely to run if we build a groundswell of support for him. Let's do our civic duty and make it happen. Our challenges as a nation are largely due to failures of leadership. America needs and deserves great leadership and we need it now.
