From Bad to Worse
Today's latest version of proposal for a loss and damage fund would fail on all accounts.
This fund is desperately needed to advance the rights of those impacted yet the proposal currently considered in Abu Dhabi would be a travesty of climate justice.

@HenryMumbiMumbi@ssishuwa Wow great mind speaking. This is how things should be. It should be more about how can we support this President who has demonstrated responsible leadership and accountability.
Doc, in whose interest is free education, debt restructuring, remove of death penalty, remove of defamation of the president, reintroduction of meal allowances, increase of CDF etc? It is not easy to achieve all these in a short term. I can understand that our expectations were too high however, our system and institutions require an overall transformation. I suppose UPND have a strategy to win the elections in 2026 however the president and the team have demonstrated that it is not always about being popular. For instance, our towns were a mess but they decided to remove the vendors! Besides, our president has already hinted that he is not worried about being kicked out. Sometimes as citizens we need to offer help. I have always admired your writings and I can understand that we need to be critical in our approach. Opinions will always differ and I respect your supposition. However, our president has the interest of the people of Zambia 🇿🇲. It is not primarily about him or the external interests! The man is working so hard under difficult circumstances. Doc, give him a break and offer viable alternatives. As a historian you know more about where we are coming from. Thank you 🙏 ever so much for your insights and I suppose the PIG will listen.
Hichilema appears to be primarily serving two interests: his own and external ones, with little attention paid to addressing the domestic concerns or needs of the people who put him in office. If opposition parties form a ‘Save Zambia’ coalition and field a common and credible candidate against him in 2026, #Zambia is likely to experience its fourth transfer of power since 1991– unless he changes for the better or imprisons his main political opponents. Of course, the UPND remains confident of winning re-election based on the illusion that there is no credible opposition to unseat them – not because they (would) have delivered on their promises.
