Day 4 at #UNEA7 brought high-level commitments, intense negotiations, and renewed urgency to act on climate, biodiversity, and pollution. Momentum is building but the toughest gaps are still on the table.

Day 3 at #UNEA7 highlighted the urgent need for unity and coordinated action to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Progress was made on key resolutions, but tough negotiations reminded us how complex global environmental governance remains. #UNEA #UNEA7 #ClimateAction #PIGD

Day 2 was packed with tough negotiations on climate, nature, waste, chemicals, and governance. Progress was made on coral reef resilience and youth participation, but debates on technology transfer, funding, and aligning global agreements slowed things down. The stocktaking plenary raised concerns about the pace of talks, while the launch of GEO-7 reminded everyone of the urgent need for bold, science-driven action. As deadlines approach, the pressure is rising but so is the commitment to finding sustainable solutions. #UNEA7 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GlobalPolicy

Yesterday, PACJA—represented by Charles Mwangi—delivered the keynote address at the opening of the Pan-African Parliament’s Technical Consultation on the Draft Model Law on Climate Change, held at the National Assembly of Djibouti. The three-day consultation (7–9 December 2025) is a significant milestone in the continent-wide effort to craft a unified, justice-driven legislative response to climate change. The session was officially opened by Rt. Hon. Dileita Mohamed Dileita, Speaker of the National Assembly of Djibouti, who underscored the importance of the initiative jointly led by the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and #PACJA. He emphasized that “concerted and synergized efforts are always needed to minimize the negative impacts of climate change.” The meeting is chaired by Hon. Abdallah Barakat Ibrahim, Vice-Chairperson of the PAP Committee on Rural Economy, Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources. Speaking on behalf of the PAP President and Bureau, he welcomed participants and clarified the core purpose of the consultation: “to engage consultants and key stakeholders to define the scope, structure, and substantive elements of the Pan-African Parliament Model Law on Climate Change.” As the institution leading the technical development of the Model Law, PACJA reaffirmed in its keynote address that this process represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen Africa’s climate governance architecture, enhance coherence across national policies, and reinforce Africa’s negotiating position at global climate forums. The drafting framework currently under review will form the backbone of a harmonized legislative tool intended to guide AU Member States toward robust, equitable, and accountable climate action.
