When Dr Elsie Inglis asked the War Office if female doctors & surgeons could serve in front-line hospitals in #WW1 she was told "my good lady, go home and sit still". She formed the Scottish Women's Hospitals and 1500 women provided voluntary medical care to the sick & wounded
