The airline business still operates like it did in 1955. It’s unbelievable to me that in 2025, it is so antiquated and held hostage by unions. Trying to depart LEX-ORD. Less than 1 hour flight on a CRJ550. The CRJ550 is the same as the CRJ700 but has a reduced certified max takeoff weight, so it can only carry 50 passengers. The -700 can take 70-78. -550 and -700 are the same aircraft except for a paperwork max weight difference. The restriction is due to union “scope clauses” that require aircraft that carry over 50 passengers to be flown only by the mainline union pilots. They just forced 5 paying passengers off the flight due to weight restrictions. The airplane can structurally carry the weight, but due to union contracts, it is restricted!

@k5nd We (K4SWD and I) tried from EM78 and had lousy luck. I think we were hearing people off the broad side of their beam AND the band was changing faster than the FT8 cycle. Nobody was on FT4. Ended with 5 QSOs so you did better than us.
