@actfast Or a combination, like an AI-generated fake that started to circulate inside Ru MoD as if it were real.

@actfast Check the scale on this "map". It says "1:110 000"/"1100m in 1cm". Hard to say whether this is an AI-generated fake, an AI-generated slop for internal consumption, or a manually generated slop for internal consumption - might be any of the three.

Prof. Bonk 🇺🇦 Perverse & Unintended Consequences
The leaked Russian 🇷🇺 map fight is missing the point. The story is simple: Russian commanders are exaggerating gains, Moscow is laundering the exaggeration into maps, and everyone argues over the fake line. That is not fog of war. That is a coloring book for failure.⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

@NotWoofers Whoever produced this "map" is on krokodil. Check the scale on this map - it says "1:110 000" and, to make it clear it's not a simple typo, duplicates it as "1100m in 1cm"

@SneakyVertical @Noahpinion Test. Trace. Isolate. The only reason why cheap Chinese inverters are able to use built-in LTE chips to communicate with cell phone base stations is that said base stations are Chinese.

Look, it's simple: China threatening its neighbors = bad China exporting cheap green tech = good China suppressing global speech = bad China researching tons of useful technologies = good China supporting Russia = bad China building factories in poor countries = good

@PaleoWenus @Noahpinion It is the West's fault, though. It should be us building factories in poor countries to produce cheap solar. Derailing what China does in this area would simply put everything back into the Nordstream 2 mode - the world dependent on whims of all the Russias, Irans and Quatars.

@Noahpinion China exporting cheap green tech = Nord Stream 3. This is an immense security threat, look at what Spain is doing also because of it. So bad.

@secretsqrl123 @M0nstas "Scale 1:110 000" at the bottom? 110? Hard to say WTF is that. Either a forgery based on an AI slop, or the Ru MoD produces a complete garbage internally

@TheBarrenNorth @slantchev True. At the same time, neither Americans nor the rest of the developed world realize how much more sensitive to fuel prices America is compared to said rest. They don't understand why we still haven't toppled our governments, we don't understand their whining about fuel prices.

@TheBarrenNorth @slantchev Well, it's not only the fuel efficiency, and it is not just "drive". Transportation distance for everything is larger on average in the US. The same $1 added to fuel prices has way stronger effects on the US than it does here.

@N519E103 @slantchev While there is a fuel efficiency difference between US vehicles and European vehicles, it's far from that extreme. Americans do tend to drive further, however.

@TheBarrenNorth @slantchev The US literally has to burn 2x more fuel per citizen per year than Europe. Many Europeans fail to realize how thinly the American infrastructure is spread compared to us.

@prof_preobr Неправда.

What an appalling clickbait title. Europe is NOT dropping support for Ukraine and is, in fact, contributing larger amounts than before. What's going on is specific to the Czech initiative, which was always a stop-gap measure, and the internal domestic politics there after Babiš won the elections and became PM. Basically, that Kremlin stooge knee-capped the initiative by cutting all Czech contributions to it (claiming it lacked transparency) but keeping it so that others could go on paying. Many of the governments questioned whether it made sense to continue with the initiative under these conditions and concluded that their support is better directed without it. Incidentally, the Czech Ministry of Defense still has contracts to deliver about 1 million shells this year, so the pipeline is still going. Recall that the initiative was created when idiotic US domestic politics halted new aid packages to Ukraine for months back in 2023 (yes, during Biden's presidency, as we were writing furiously about at the time), and was meant to provide a bridge until European production capacity scaled up by purchasing ammunition for Ukraine on the world market. As recently as April 23, the EU Council agreed to provide another €90 billion to Ukraine for 2026-27, with 2/3 of it earmarked for defense procurement and investment. Germany alone announced €11.5 billion for 2026 for air defenses, drones, and artillery shells from German manufacturers. So no, the alarmist title does not mean that Europe is abandoning Ukraine just when the Russians began to lose territory there. It just means that when you elect a PM who wishes to do Kremlin's dirty work, the dirty work will get done, and so the Europeans have to work around it.

@N519E103 The important point is that he’s saying Russia can’t hope to gain anything more than what it has already seized and so it’s time to look for a ceasefire.

Russian elites are discussing this article by Vasiliy Kashin, Director of the Center for Complex European and International Research at the Higher School of Economics. It came out a few days ago in Russia in Global Affairs. Here are some interesting bits (interspersed with the inevitable lying about what caused Istanbul talks to fail and some supposed arrangement with the Americans in Alaska): Balance of Forces The SMO is being conducted on Ukrainian territory, supported by fifty advanced economies of the world, while Russia's allies are North Korea and Belarus. Taking into account the Western assistance being drawn upon (both in equipment and in financial terms), Ukraine's capabilities are roughly equal to Russia's military budget and exceed Russian expenditures directly on the SMO. Ukraine has a smaller population but is conducting general mobilization, while Russia has carried out only one mobilization wave of three hundred thousand men over the course of the war. Therefore, in terms of human resources, the capabilities of the two sides are comparable. Russia holds superiority in firepower and air defense capabilities, but Ukraine, owing to its access to Western capacity, enjoys an advantage in such important areas as tactical reconnaissance and communications. In the use of drones—the key weapon of this war—the two sides are at a comparable level. Thus, the war is being fought between roughly matched adversaries. Historically, such wars have very rarely ended in the complete destruction of one side. Moreover, they may be characterized by a protracted course, and the parties' objectives in such wars are substantially revised depending on how the fighting unfolds. There is nothing surprising in such revision; the very fact of it does not indicate failure. 1/4
