Developed at NASA Langley, SCALPSS, or Stereo Cameras for Lunar Plume-Surface Studies, will fly on four commercial lunar landers in 2028 as part of NASA’s Moon Base Program. The instrument helps researchers understand crater formation and the characteristics of ejected materials during landings—critical insight as larger landers touch down closer together. Last year, SCALPSS captured this first‑of‑its‑kind imagery during Firefly’s Blue Ghost Mission 1. NASA has issued a draft solicitation to advance critical lunar and cislunar technologies. The focus: closing gaps in vertical solar arrays, ISRU oxygen production, Stirling radioisotope generators, in‑space manufacturing, and advanced nanomaterials. These efforts aim to mature key systems, accelerating progress toward NASA’s Moon Base and near‑term missions. go.nasa.gov/4vG4ezk
